Seahawks Sign Former Lions CB Terrion Arnold

The Seattle Seahawks officially signed cornerback Terrion Arnold on Aug. 29, adding a former Detroit Lions defensive back to a secondary that has been a franchise hallmark since the Legion of Boom era. The signing was confirmed by Pro Football Talk.

Arnold, who spent time with the Lions, joins Seattle at a moment when the team is rounding out its 53-man roster. He gives the Seahawks another body at a position where depth gets tested quickly. Seattle's cornerback group is young and unproven behind its top options, and Arnold brings game reps from Detroit that most of the depth chart can't match.

The Seahawks have a history of turning castoffs and reclamation projects into contributors on the back end. Arnold has more pedigree than most, having played meaningful snaps for a Detroit defense that made noise in the NFC. Now he lands in a system that asks corners to be aggressive and disciplined.

There's no guaranteed role. Arnold will have to earn snaps in practice and the preseason finale. But Seattle didn't sign him just to fill a roster spot. He's a candidate for the boundary rotation and could push for a starting job if he picks up the scheme quickly.

The move also carries an insurance element. Cornerbacks get hurt at an alarming rate, and teams can never have enough capable cover men. Arnold's arrival raises the floor of the Seahawks' position group without forcing a major commitment.

The expectation should be that Arnold plays a real role early. He's young, he's experienced, and he's entering a defense that has historically gotten the best from defensive backs. That combination is worth a flier every time.

Seattle's secondary is better today than it was before the signing. That's the point.
