Clark's injury is the headline. The rookie safety broke his ankle against Tennessee, according to The Spokesman-Review. Richman went down on the opening drive and was helped to the sideline after having his right leg checked, per the Bastille Post. Neither will play this fall.
The moves extend a rough stretch for Seattle's roster before the season even starts. Wide receiver Jake Bobo was carted off the field Friday during a joint practice with the Titans and was placed on injured reserve Saturday. That's three players lost in a five-day span, two of them to the same opponent in a game that didn't count.
The Seahawks now have to fill holes at safety and offensive line before cutdowns. Clark was a rookie with a real chance to earn secondary reps. Richman was a depth piece on a line that can't afford to lose bodies. Their absence changes the math on roster decisions.
Preseason is the only part of the NFL calendar where a meaningless game can end a season. That's not new. But it's why teams increasingly sit their proven players and send rookies into harm's way. The rookies are the ones who need the reps. They're also the ones with the most to lose.
