Lock: Hello. Gosh, I don't know if my lifespan loves them as much as I love them in the moment. But yeah, man. There's a blast again. So proud of everybody over hound me tonight on the offensive side of the ball. Can't say enough about the defense force and the turnovers and it was such an awesome night.
Lock: The life of a backup quarterback, you don't get reps in the game. How do you stay? We see you out there at the end of practice. How else do you stay ready for moments like this?
Lock: Yeah, my biggest thing is always just drawing every play as much as I can. Say that again literally drawing. Yeah. Yeah, whiteboard. I've got one next to my bed. I'll do it at night. I'll do it in the morning and that's just kind of been my thing being able to visualize it so that when I read it out it's just there in my head. Because of, you know, the lack of reps, you don't get to physically do it. I got to be able to draw it from somewhere and no pun intended and drawing it helps me draw it from somewhere.
Lock: Probably not it is like a classic football play. But no, no definitely definitely never ran it. Looked kind of funny before the snap and really seemed like they had anybody ready to match Jax based on what I knew we were about to run and he's actually end up being the third read in that play and when 11 is just standing there you got to give him the pill.
Lock: So, I mean you're the number two quarterback. It's four down and short and set up put Barner in to run or whatever. That's fun. Yes, how sweet sweet when you hear like the digit come in. I'd like to think that I could have like all a hundred memorized by the time that but no, I'm like, all right. What number is that? Full seven. Here we go. Let's do it. It was it was cool. It was awesome.
Lock: It was it. It's kind of one of those like, pardon my French, it's a little tap on the ass like go get this done, buddy. It was cool, and then your reaction to what Jackson did with it afterwards.
Lock: Yeah, oh fantastic do the work for me, but I'll get that thing done and yeah, just another Jackson moment that doesn't surprise any of us, but turns into a cool highlight reel.
Lock: You mentioned the defense coach Flurry.
Lock: Yeah, good Flurry. Obviously, that's probably not the way he was made in right first game to go. But how did you see the communication with him goes the game progressed? It seemed like he was getting you some easy opportunities.
Lock: Yeah, halftime to kind of get you into a rhythm get the offense. No, it was great to get in here half. Put the plays up on the board, talk about our openers coming out of the half, really get those dialed in. I think it's also a little bit of the just feeling the flow of the game getting back into this. Finding ways to in the future be able to snap into a quicker. That's just the life of a backup.
Lock: But yeah, no, we did it. He did a fantastic job all night. We need to be a little better on some procedural things. Obviously, that's apparent you can't go second and inches to whatever we ended up on that drive could have came back to bite us and we got to get better moving forward.
Lock: Is that the case with Flurry's that I said, yeah, is that the was that the case tonight even when same thing?
Lock: Same thing. It was awesome to see that. I think as a quarterback, you know with someone in the headset you want them like this all the time whether that's, you know, he's really energetic, but always been energetic or you're really stoic always be stoic. That was it was awesome to feel that from him tonight see that from him and know that's what we're gonna get moving forward.
Lock: Yeah, I'd say it's an interesting question because you know, I've definitely grown I've learned a lot about football. But having an opportunity on a team like this can shift your mindset. Knowing the type of defense that we have, there's no rush to push the ball down the field. Let's find ways to get the ball in our guys' hands. Now when the ones downfield are there I've never been one to be afraid to throw those.
Lock: But having the mindset of taking care of the football getting it in our guys' hands. You don't think you got the best defense in the world in my opinion. Let's keep the ball moving forward and see what the scoreboard looks like at the end of this.
Lock: I imagine it's the game going down. You have to be thinking about overtime again, right? Just was there a reaction that you can see the interception like it was all right. We're talking about four minute. All right. We're talking about two minute all right, stop talking to me about two minute and I'm gonna go watch this last play and me and Jaylen are sitting there and sure enough the ball went up in the air and Joe made a heck of a play.
Lock: And then you click into oh my gosh, you just gotta go need it now the game's over. Let's go take a knee and get on in here and celebrate a little bit.
Lock: Yeah, you know you kind of see that I've always been the guy to stand behind the offense. Watch him watch the pass rush and then go back and like look at the tape on the sideline with the pictures. The hit was kind of there's bodies in the way. I didn't necessarily see it take a couple steps away. I look back and I see him kind of hobble into the sideline. That's happened before nothing too big.
Lock: But when he kept doing it all the way to the white I was like, all right, this might be something and I feel like I know Sam really well. He was gonna do everything he can to stay out there. But it's just one of those things where you had to go get it looked at.
Lock: True long season just one game or what its value of getting a win like this when it looks so bleak there for two and a half quarters or whatever?
Lock: Yeah, I mean anyone, anyone in this league is huge, especially the first one of the year against a team that was obviously very good the year before. It just instead of starting here you started here. That's that's really the only difference. We're gonna go attack this coming week the same diligence that we attacked this week with and can't see where we're at after week two.
Lock: Break through your week four and just take it one week at a time.
Lock: Drew, your whiteboard at home. Can you think of the most random moment when you've been felt the urge to go to it middle of the night early in the morning friends over?
Lock: Oh, I'll say that every day I get home to do that. I have to erase things that were not drawn by me. That's probably the most random thing about that whiteboard. I think it's a good time killer from my wife at home at some point with the kiddo.
Lock: Yeah, so it's fun. I get to smile right as I start to do it and kind of remember why you're doing it. Haven't no, it's just it's honestly the whole thing ends up almost black and it's just it's just scribbles all high everywhere.
Lock: Yeah, it's quiet, it's quiet in bed but after two kids you kind of realize there's a lot of quiet times in bed when you just lay there like what are we doing? Yeah, no, she understands she gets it but so tell her I love her give her a little kiss and go to sleep.
