Bo Nix addressed the media during a press conference for the Denver Broncos on September 9, 2026, ahead of their season opener on Monday Night Football. The event focused on the team's preparations and challenges as they gear up for the upcoming game.

Nix: Absolutely, it doesn't get old. It's very exciting. It means you're in a really good spot as an organization, but it's also a great responsibility. You get put on Monday Night Football week one, that means you've got something to go out there and improve. So we're excited as a team, it's going to be a really big challenge, but one that I think we're going to respond well to, and we just got to go out there and play really hard.
Nix: You know, I think out here there's different animals that you could encounter, and I hear a lot of times it's mountain lions and bears you don't want to come across. I guess that's a good comparison, one that I'll take, and I definitely think the thing about mountain lions is usually when you notice them, it's because they noticed you a long time ago, but I'm just excited to get out there. I am, I feel like I'm pacing, I feel like I've been in this practice schedule for a long time, and it's exciting to get out there and go play another team, but really exciting, and I know our guys are going to respond well, and I feel like I've got a great group with me that I'm going in here with, so I can't wait.
Nix: Well I think he, I think I was running it sort of in my head, he might be the defense coordinator that I've now probably faced the most, going in game five against him, I don't think I've played a defense coordinator five times yet really in my life, so I feel he's going to have many bags of tricks, he's going to have a lot thrown at us, but I feel like at least I can see it a little bit, I've seen a lot of their structure, and I've gotten more and more comfortable, now it's the beginning of the year, game one, they're going to throw something at us that we're going to have to make adjustments to, and that's one of our keys, is just get to the sideline and make adjustments, and play what we see and fall back on our rules and our technique, but he's a great D.C., he's been doing it for a long time for a reason, he's one of the best in the game, so it's exciting playing against a defensive coordinator like that, but he presents many multiple challenges that he just, you know, he'll throw a lot of different things at you and make you respond, so we're going to be ready for it, but also have to adjust.
Nix: I think it's tougher on them for sure, because you just don't know necessarily his style, I've been around Davis for a few years, understanding what he likes, doesn't like the kind of style he's going to call the game with and stuff like that, but overall I think it's going to be tougher for them to respond and adjust, but at the end of the day, it's kind of like professional football, it's professional football, everybody seems to be doing similar things, you know, they're going to play manner zone, we're going to run our pass, it's really easy once you get down to it, but you know, it'll be a cool little match to see Davis, you know, his first game call and plays against arguably one of the better D.C.s in the league.
Nix: Well I think every year when you start, there's going to be things that, you know, we haven't been playing for, you know, five, six months, so there's going to be things to get back and get going again, but when I was out there against Green Bay, it was kind of like I can carry over of last season, you know, it feels like you go from one game to the next, you know, once you play football long enough and so I do, fortunately I feel like I'm in a position in my career that I do feel like I just get back into the mode of the game and can see things, get my eyes up and all that, but there's definitely going to be adjustments that I have to make on the run.
Nix: Well it's an honor to be a captain on our team because it's voted by the players and so it's a very just, it's a special honor when your peers and your teammates when they vote you to be, you know, one of the leaders of our team and we have several leaders and to be named one, it's really, you know, again, it's a great responsibility and with that comes a lot of opportunity but, you know, also it's a big weight to carry, it's not something to be thrown around lightly but, you know, my leadership style has evolved as I've gotten older because I've experienced more and I've understood what it's like to, you know, essentially get somebody to follow you, that's what a leader is and so I've gone from a little bit of a action-based leader when I first got here because honestly I was just trying to, you know, swim and not drown and just do my role and do my part on the team while also leading by action but I feel like now I can sort of lead a little bit more vocally because I'm a little bit more aware and have a few more things under my belt that I can fall back on.
Nix: Well fortunately I've played, I've played a season opener before, I've played all Monday night football before and I played at Kansas City at night before and honestly I've played this team and the head coach, the quarterback and the DC so it's sort of going to feel a little bit like carryover but it's a new team and a new year so certain things will be the same, certain things will be different so for me it's all about trusting my training, getting back to, you know, having good eyes, having good feet, having good communication in the huddle, execute at a high level, get the ball out quick, don't take negative plays and when we get in the red zone we got to push the ball in and get and get touchdowns and so I know I just got to do my part, do my role and we got a lot of guys that, where I don't have to do anything necessarily crazy or special, we just let our guys do their thing and so I'm excited and again going there it'll present different challenges, ones that we'll face then but for right now it's just being in the moment, studying a Wednesday we're about to get in here and watch practice, study some third downs and, you know, how well can I do that right now before I get to the game when it really matters.
Nix: Well he'll pressure you at different moments, he'll kind of lull you to sleep then bring pressure, he'll wait till you cross the 50, get in scoring zone, second and long yardages, he likes to just get you a third down, get you a third and long so he can bring something else exotic so for us, you know, we've seen last year we saw, you know, a couple different game plans the first time he attacked us the second time he stayed a little bit more shell cover two and quarters but so we don't know what we'll get but we know he's got a lengthy call sheet that he could get to a lot of different things and when you usually when you play a guy that's got a lot that relies on doing a lot you want to be simple, concise, be easy and just get to your answers.
Nix: It says we have a lot of leadership, says we've had a lot of carry over, a lot of guys that have really groomed themselves and, you know, formed themselves into being great leaders and, you know, again it was voted on by the team so our team, you know, apparently sees and views many guys as leaders and as captains and to us that's important and, you know, last year had a lot of guys carry over this year be captain them and keep being a new guy but he obviously worked himself into that role and we see him as a great special teams captain that can lead the team really well so I think it's really good when you have a lot of leadership that means you got guys that have been around know the culture know how to operate at a high level know how to win games and that was really the theme of, you know, us as captains is like we've been here we know what it's going to take now we don't have anything else to do we just got to go out here and win and compete at a high level and we got really good leadership to do that.
