Reporter: Hey Alex, thanks for doing this with us. You guys played Kenneth Walker a couple years ago. Now, obviously he's in KC. What is one of the biggest challenges of going against a player like that? What does he do that makes it particularly hard for defenses?

Singleton: Yeah, I mean he's in the lead back in this league. He really takes the ball anywhere on the field on any given play. You gotta, you can't just, you know, like a stretch play, set the front side. You really gotta, you know, have containment on the back side and really all over, really forces all 11 guys on defense to be able to tackle him.

Reporter: Hey Alex, in 2022 you guys had a similar opening game, at least Monday Night Football on the road. I'm curious, I mean I know that was a little bit ago, but is there any difference in how you guys are prepping for this week, you know, in this Monday Night Football compared to what it was against Seattle and in 22?

Singleton: That's funny you say that. I'm like, who did we play Monday Night in 22? I would say no. I think it's really just using these extra days the right way. You can, you know, when camp ends and then you kind of have the like last week, you know, that buy-ish week where you can prepare for a team or not. It's just having you use all these extra days to prepare for that first game and just how you're going to take, you know, whatever that Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, this week, however you're going to use it as a team and, you know, what schedule you're going to be on and we're on the same one so, you know, we're going to be ready to go Monday night.

Reporter: Hey Alex, question for you because we heard Sean last week say that you guys are preparing like Mahomes is the Mahomes you've always seen, but obviously coming off such a devastating injury, I guess, are there certain things you're going to be looking for or do you just expect, hey, it's the same Mahomes that you've seen, you know, for the last, the league scene, the last decade?

Singleton: Well, since I could have played nine months after my ACL, I'm assuming he's also going to be able to, so I'm expecting him to be him. You know, I think that's like that kind of guy, you know, he's obviously has the right trainers, has the right mentality to come back and be ready to go and he wouldn't play unless he was 100% because he just don't want to put that out there and I think as a guy like that, he's not going to do that. So we're preparing like he's going to be 100% ready to go and we're going to, you know, continue that way and play that way on Monday.

Reporter: Yeah. Hey Alex, I'm curious what you've learned over the last few years about what it takes to beat these guys and what it, what you can expect each time you play them. Obviously a familiar opponent, but just kind of what you've learned about what it takes to get it done against these guys.

Singleton: Yeah, you know, I think that's what's fun about this first game. You know, sometimes you play a, you know, like we've said, you know, we played Seattle a few years ago. We, your game ones are sometimes out of the division and you don't really know what you're getting or it's a new head coach. You don't know what you're getting. What's exciting about this matchup is it's, you know, we're kind of, you know, five years in a row, you know, we're getting, we're getting the same matchup. We're doing these things. So it's, it's really playing that chess game. Like neither team is playing checkers anymore. You know, we, we know what the other team's going to do. They know what we're going to do. We know what they're going to do. And so it's who's going to make those slight adjustments that they spent all off season preparing for each other to do that. And so, that's, that's what I think makes us exciting. And you know, why, why it's, it's going to be a fun Monday night.

Reporter: Hey Alex, I understand you became a father for the second time last week, so I just wanted to congratulate you and then say, where is your head space now, given what you had to overcome with the cancer and everything last year?

Singleton: Yeah, first, thank you. It's fun. You know, playing man-to-man defense now is fun with the life. So I got a lot of pool time with our oldest daughter this weekend. So it was cool. But yeah, my head's great. You know, it's really, you know, I think I said it a lot last year, giving me that perspective, you know, the game, I didn't know if it was going to be fully taken away from me and have, you know, a whole nother battle. And so to kind of have that, you know, beginner, I know Riz always talks about it, but that kind of beginner mindset in this game, almost, you know, knowing my time playing now is wasn't always going to be there again. So to just enjoy it and really, you know, I understand what it's like now preparing for that last opportunity. So, you know, what I would do mentally, physically, emotionally for games. And so just kind of take those lessons that I learned last year and, you know, use them this year every single week to just be, you know, the best player leader I can be for this team.

Reporter: Yeah Alex, along the contrary to you guys knowing each other, the Chiefs, you know, are known for kind of a creative misdirection, kind of a clever team. They put the ball up quite a bit. But I was wondering, now that they got a lead, a real leap back with Kenneth Walker and Mahomes coming off the ACL, I mean, would you be surprised if they have a little bit more of a physical offense element to them this year?

Singleton: No, I, you know, I think, you know, kind of what you're getting at is that they can run the ball more. I think, yeah, I think there's, there's preparing, you know, for Mahomes to be a hundred percent, which I think he's going to be, but also why put a guy in situations all the time on a nine month ACL. I think they're, you know, time to separate things. So when you go get a bag like that, it is, you know, saying to the league and the entire interval, hey, we want to run the ball. We're going to show the league that we can. And I think that's what they're going to come out and do. And yeah, you know, we're going to prepare for that. But like I said, you know, they're going to, they are like, they're going to run, they're going to have their trick plays, their special plays, their high red, their low red, all the, all that stuff where you see all the, you know, I guess, Andy Reed, Patrick Mahomes, magic, if you want to call it that plays. And so, yeah, we're going to just prepare for it all. But yeah, you know, an offense, I can run the ball first, you know, makes the game really hard to play. So, you know, our first goal is obviously always going to be just off the run.
