Tyreek Hill to the Chiefs? Rosenhaus Says a Deal Could Come This Week
Drew Rosenhaus doesn't float timelines he can't back. The agent for free agent Tyreek Hill told ProFootballTalk that Hill could sign with a team this week, and that a return to Kansas City is a possibility. Those are the two facts on the table. No contract terms, no other teams, no visit scheduled that anyone has reported.
Start with what the report actually says. Hill is a free agent, which means every receiver-needy front office in the league has his number. Rosenhaus saying his client could sign "this week" is the kind of thing agents say when a deal is close, and also the kind of thing they say when they want three teams to think a fourth is close. Both readings fit the same sentence.
The Chiefs link is the interesting one because of what Kansas City's passing game looks like right now. In the most recent box score on file, Patrick Mahomes went 15-of-30 for 225 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Xavier Worthy caught four of seven targets for 70 yards, including a 41-yarder. Tyquan Thornton caught five for 111 and two scores. Travis Kelce was held to two catches for 15 yards.
That's a functional offense with a young, cheap receiver room and a tight end who turns 37 this fall. Adding Hill wouldn't be about filling a hole. It would be about giving Mahomes a receiver who forces defenses out of the single-high looks they've been comfortable sitting in, and about whether a 30-plus speed receiver still wins the reps that made him a Chief in the first place. The report frames it as a return, which tells you the fit is being sold on history as much as scheme.
My read: Rosenhaus gets his signing, and soon, because he doesn't stake a public timeline on nothing. I'll take the field over Kansas City. Nothing in this report describes contract discussions with the Chiefs specifically, just a possibility, and Kansas City has spent three years building an offense that distributes rather than features. If Hill does land back at Arrowhead, it will be because the price dropped into a range the Chiefs couldn't ignore, not because they went shopping for him.
Hill's next 72 hours will tell us which of those it is.
