Sean McVay said he doesn't know Nacua's game status for Week 3 against the Broncos, then said he's hopeful Nacua plays. Read those two clauses in order. "Don't know" is not a downgrade, and "hopeful" is not a designation. McVay is sitting on the only piece of information that actually moves, which is the practice report, and he isn't giving it away early in the week. The coach's tone is the least reliable input in this whole exercise. Thursday's participation line matters more than anything said Tuesday.
The second angle on the same story is what the Rams do if Nacua's Week 3 availability stays unsettled into the weekend. Any plan for Denver starts with whether the top of the target tree is intact, and the ripple is positional rather than schematic. The Rams can replace a body in the formation. They can't replace the attention that body draws. If Nacua is limited, expect heavier personnel and quicker throws early, with the Rams buying themselves information before opening up. If he's full-go by Friday, none of it matters.
Then there's the 2026 expected touchdown leaderboard. xTD is the more honest scoring stat. Actual touchdowns describe what happened on a handful of high-variance plays. Expected touchdowns describe how many scores a player's usage should have produced, weighting target depth and carry location instead of the outcome of one run or one jump ball. The gap between the two is the actionable part. A player whose real touchdown total sits well above his xTD has been paid by luck and is a candidate to cool. A player whose xTD runs ahead of his actual total has been fighting bad sequencing, and that's the profile worth buying before the market adjusts.
Usage is the signal. Scoring is the noise. Most managers read those two things backwards, chasing last week's touchdown instead of this week's opportunity. The leaderboard corrects for that, and it belongs ahead of points-per-game in any weekly reading rotation.
My verdict: McVay's hedging is noise, and if Nacua is on the practice field in any capacity by Thursday, he plays Sunday against Denver. Separately, anyone treating raw touchdown totals as a rest-of-season projection is working from a stat that already lies to them. Track xTD. Trust it over the box score.
