Kubiak told reporters Cousins has the job to lose. That's as close to a commitment as a coach gives without doing the thing. But officially, no name has been entered into the lineup card. The announcement is coming. It just hasn't arrived.
For fantasy managers, this is the good kind of problem. Cousins' presumed presence gives the Raiders' passing attack a known floor. Whoever earns the target share around him becomes a viable Week 1 play. The uncertainty is in the details — which receiver, which tight end, which plan. Not the quarterback.
The "job to lose" phrasing is deliberate. Kubiak is leaving the door open, but only a crack. Cousins has the experience and the scheme fit. His arm still works. The real risk is health, and that's a risk every older quarterback carries into camp.
For DFS, the distinction matters. A named starter gives you a stack you can trust. An unspoken one leaves a sliver of doubt. That sliver, for now, is a discount.
