Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed will undergo season-ending neck surgery and be placed on injured reserve, coach Matt LaFleur said Wednesday.
That's the whole of what's confirmed. Neck surgery. Season over. A roster move to follow. No recovery timeline has been offered, and for a neck procedure that's the detail that matters most.
Fantasy managers holding Reed in redraft formats should drop him. Not stash, not hold through IR. Season-ending means that roster spot is dead weight, and the replacement value lives on the waiver wire this week.
Reed's snaps and targets don't disappear. They get redistributed inside Green Bay's offense, and the receiver who inherits the bulk of them is worth a claim in PPR leagues before the Packers line up again. I'd rather bid a week early than let a league-mate do it. In DFS, whoever slides into that role is a cheap, low-owned flier the first week he's actually on the field with a real role.
My verdict: the drop is easy, the add is the hard part. Reed is done, and somebody in that receiver room just inherited a job he didn't have Monday.
