A 19.9 QBR on 25 attempts is the kind of figure that gets a quarterback's job discussed out loud, and Maye earned it: 14-of-25, 199 yards, zero touchdowns, two interceptions, a 48.6 passer rating, and two fumbles with one lost in the Patriots' Week 3 loss to Jacksonville.

The good
Mack Hollins was the one reliable target: 6 catches on 9 targets for 87 yards, the only Patriot to clear 50 receiving yards. Romeo Doubs tacked on 3 for 49 on 4 targets. On defense, Carlton Davis III made 8 tackles, 7 of them solo, plus a tackle for loss and a pass defensed.
The bad
New England's three running backs combined for 21 carries and 63 yards. TreVeyon Henderson went 8 for 23, Rhamondre Stevenson 7 for 22, Corey Kiner 6 for 18. Nobody averaged better than 3.1 yards per carry, which means the Patriots spent third downs in obvious passing situations against a Jacksonville front that knew it. DeMario Douglas drew 5 targets and caught one, though it went for 38. Kyle Williams caught 1 of 3 for 34.
The s—t that gets you beat
Three Patriots threw a pass. None threw a touchdown. Maye's 199 yards, Tommy DeVito's 30 in relief, and Efton Chism III's 16 on a single attempt add to 245 passing yards and zero scores through the air. Maye's three sacks cost only 11 yards, which tells you pressure arrived before he could retreat. DeVito taking five attempts isn't a controversy yet. It's a data point.
The verdict
Strip out Hollins and Doubs and Maye completed 5 of 12 to everyone else for 63 yards with two picks. That's not a supporting cast problem, it's a distribution problem, and it's the reason the Patriots couldn't run their way out of it: 63 rushing yards on 21 backfield carries forces the quarterback to win, and Maye didn't. My call: if his QBR sits under 20 again next week, the DeVito snaps stop being garbage-time trivia and start being a question Vrabel gets asked on purpose.
