"Breakout" is the most dangerous word in fantasy football, and Week 3 is where it does the most damage.
Chris Allen's Week 3 storylines column leads with Bryce Young, and that framing is the whole story. The question isn't whether Young can repeat. The question presumes there was a breakout worth repeating, which presumes the underlying usage holds. For quarterbacks, that's usually where the assumption breaks.
Here's the mechanism. Fantasy quarterback production splits into two buckets. Passing yards and touchdowns are noisy and opponent-dependent. Rushing attempts and designed runs are the sticky part. A quarterback who scored because he ran is a quarterback you can project forward. A quarterback who scored because he threw for a pile of yards in a small sample is a coin flip wearing a trend's clothing. Nobody asks "will the breakout continue" about the running version. The question itself tells you which version this probably is.
So my call: I'm not starting Bryce Young in Week 3 as anything more than a matchup streamer. If you're holding him as a set-and-forget QB1, you paid for the narrative rather than the usage.
The four teams with noteworthy production are the more useful half of Allen's piece, and the right question for each of them isn't "is this real." It's "which part of this is designed and which part is incidental." Designed usage repeats. Incidental usage evaporates on the next opponent's film session.
What would change my mind, specifically: confirmation that Young's rushing volume is built into the game plan rather than scrambling out of structure, and a target hierarchy that hasn't shuffled week to week. Give me designed carries and stable distribution and I'll move him to back-end QB1 and write it. Right now I'd rather stream the position and spend the roster spot elsewhere.
