Webb: You guys first saw this schedule and saw you were playing Spaggs, did your mind go back to 2017? Well, I mean, it's gone back a few times, and Buffalo, we played them often. We were usually on the losing end of that, and then he was our interim head coach for the last four or five weeks of the season, I believe, back in the day. But I was like his scout team quarterback, so back in the day, only the defensive players and myself got banana pudding from his wife. So I miss Spaggs. He's a great dude. He's one of the best defense coordinators in this game's history, and he'll be a tough challenge for us at the game.
Reporter: Davis, there's maybe three or four different scenarios that could have happened to make your debut, real debut, easier. Could have been here, not Arrowhead, could have been two o'clock start at prime time, could have been Cupcake, not the Chiefs defense. What do you think about breaking in the way you are?
Webb: I think, on average, there's like four new playoff teams on both sides of the conferences, so there's no such thing as a Cupcake in this league. I'm very blessed to have the team we have, the offensive players. We have a veteran offense. We've been in the system for a while, and we've all played in Arrowhead. So we know that's a cool place to play. Monday Night Football, what other stage would you want better? And I think the focus has been good this week, and I think the plan's going in place, and we'll see what happens Monday night.
Reporter: Davis, what's your relationship with Patrick Holmes right now, and do you talk to him at all this week leading up to it? We heard Vance said he talks to Eric Bienvenu three times this week already.
Webb: I don't think I'm going to text Pat until pregame. I'll hit him up. That's been kind of our tradition on game weeks. We always talk for a good 15 minutes. We were great teammates when he was a freshman, as a sophomore, he was a sophomore, as a junior, and then he made me transfer out to Cal. But him and I are still really, really close, and I love Pat. He was like my younger brother, because him and I were the only scholarship quarterbacks at the time, because Baker transferred out, and obviously had a really good career, good contract as well. So yeah, Pat's a great dude, and I'm glad he's healthy, and I know he'll be ready to rock.
Reporter: Obviously, guessing you had butterflies as a player before a game, have you allowed yourself to think about maybe the emotions and energy on Monday night?
Webb: Yeah, that's going to happen, and I think that's a good thing. But I think our stash prepared, I think our players are prepared, and we'll let it rip when it goes time. But right now, yeah, there's definitely butterflies for everybody. I think getting that as a player, getting hit for the first time, first completion, getting the first play call in, and then we'll get rolling after that.
Reporter: David said yesterday, Cortland called Bo a mountain light, said he was reminded of a mountain light, and asked Bo about it, and he didn't mind that comparison. He's lurking and pacing back and forth. Do you like that analogy?
Webb: Yeah, now I can't unsee it, to be honest with you. He is a lurker. He does pace. He's always thinking, but he's also very stealthy. So I think that's pretty dang good. I'm going to give Cort some props there.
Reporter: At the end of seeing the press conference, Sean Payton talked about rehoning the technique for receivers. He talked about how you catch in, and that was going to be kind of the back to the basics thing this offseason. What have you seen from that group in that particular area in terms of catching the ball and the fundamental part of it there?
Webb: I think the number one thing is everyone's had a really good consecutive days. Marvin's had two in a row. Troy's had a few in a row. Cortland, WOD, Pat, like all of them have just consistently gotten better from OTAs to here. And I think a lot of it is Ronald Curry. I mean, RC comes in from New Orleans. He's played receiver in the league, played in North Carolina. He was a Gatorade player of the year. He was a quarterback and a point guard slam dunk champion. I mean, I can keep going. And he was Josh Allen's quarterback coach the last few years. So there's a lot of good talks him and I get to have, because I was there before him, and then he kind of came after me. And yeah, I'm very blessed RC's here. And I think just his relatability with the players is noticeable. And we've always had that in our rooms there, but man, it's a blessing to have our Ronald Curry here kind of coaching those guys up.
Reporter: David, when we talked to you in the spring, you mentioned just the benefit of having a future gold jacket head coach upstairs. What benefit has Sean been this week for you? And on game day, what do you expect he'll be able to help you with?
Webb: I think game day is going to be similar to what has been the preseason. You know, he's been awesome throughout the game. You know, he has his few pointers here and there, and they're all very productive pointers. I mean, he's 62 years old. I'm 31. I mean, it is what it is. He has a lot more experience than me. Even the last few nights, I mean, he's given us five to 10 nuggets that has really benefited us going through the game playing meetings. It's still Sean Payton offense, and that's how we want to operate it.
Reporter: What do you like about meeting with the offensive skill group as a whole?
Webb: I think we're all on the same page. We didn't do that much before. Other places I've been, we have. And I think it's nice to have all the skill guys in there when it comes to routes or run discussions, and we're all talking about angles and talking about our job responsibilities because we all affect one another. And then the Oli can kind of sit down in their room and kind of watch it from the back end while we can watch from the all 22, all three angles. So I think it's been really productive. Our guys really like it. They're able to speak up and have constructive conversation on a daily basis and play to play basis. So we're going to keep doing that.
Reporter: Have you gotten anything that's been revealed to you? Like a player says, I really like this, and maybe you didn't know that?
Webb: Yeah, some of it is good reinforcement. You know, we're doing something good. And the other thing is, hey, what do you think about this? No problem. We'll change that pretty quick. I think the communications are pretty good from player to coach, coach to player, and that's the power to make a successful relationship.
