Brock Purdy, QB for the 49ers, addressed the media during a press conference held on September 8, 2026, as the team prepared for their upcoming game. The event took place in Australia, where Purdy discussed various topics, including the competition and his experiences leading up to the match.

Purdy: Mike, welcome to Australia, the average male sleep is 7 to 8 hours a night now, I have to ask, the fact that the Rams and boys involved, Garrett and Aaron Donald, what's your sleep score currently?
Purdy: No, I'm still at 8 hours, it's a great question, but obviously those guys playing together and stuff, they're really good players, so it's going to be fun to go up against them, so yeah, hopefully that answers your question.
Purdy: Rob, you'll see a lot of time in celebration, just to request the not-push dance actually originated in Australia, we requested the not-push dance to start a touchdown this Friday.
Purdy: Sorry, the not-push? Not-push, not-push either. I don't know if I, off the top of my head I don't know what that is, but if I saw it maybe, so...
Purdy: Do your research on that.
Purdy: Yeah, okay, I might pull it out for the Aussies, so yeah, yeah, we're excited about it.
Purdy: Obviously, I feel like in college, we've played in bigger stadiums and stuff, like pushing anywhere from 90 to 100 occasionally, but in the NFL to be able to play in front of 100. It's going to be the first time for a lot of us, for an NFL game, so really, really excited about that.
Purdy: We know that, and we're hearing that a lot of the Australians here are passionate about sports and everything, so for us to be able to come out and play the first NFL game out here in front of them is going to be really special, so hopefully they all get really hyped and love the game, and we can put on a good show for them.
Purdy: Yeah, it's been awesome. Obviously, George is very electric with his personality and all that, what he brings to the team, but just seeing him back out in the field running around and how explosive he is as a tight end, it's like, all right, it feels really good to have him back.
Purdy: He's a Hall of Fame caliber player, and he's going to make plays any time he's out there, so for me as a quarterback to have him back out there feels really good.
Purdy: I mean, obviously, George did a bunch of different stuff, and I feel like he could tell you probably more about what he did exactly, but from my end, just watching him, he was just so specific with his rehab every single day when I saw him in the things that he did, but all I know is he went hard.
Purdy: He did everything he could to get back for this week one, so that's a credit to him, man. It's actually remarkable to be able to have that kind of injury and do what he did to get back, and he flew places, he did things, he did everything the right way, and he just worked his tail off every day in the weight room from when we were back in California in OTAs in the summer in Tennessee, and then back during camp.
Purdy: Everybody saw what he was doing, so big credit to him for doing that and doing it for the team.
Purdy: He wanted to get back to play with the boys and to give this organization everything he's got, so that's George.
Purdy: I feel like just understanding what my job is as quarterback, making sure everyone is in the huddle, here's the play clearly, so they know what their job is, and we can do that over and over and over again, and holding a standard, feeling out practice, making sure that we're practicing the right way, so that it translates to the games on Sundays, and stuff like that.
Purdy: I feel like for me growing up, as I played quarterback at a young age and stuff, that's just something that sort of fell upon the quarterback of being the leader that everyone sort of looks to with, you know, how he handles adversity, and if everything isn't, how it should be, how is our quarterback handling it?
Purdy: So I feel like that's something that as you grow up playing quarterback, you sort of understand that, and so where I'm at now, playing for the 49ers and doing that, nothing's really changed. That's something that I've just done my whole life.
Purdy: Well, congratulations, 50 games on Friday for the Niners. Can you take us back to your very first career start, and what have you learned from your 49 other games as you head into the MCG?
Purdy: Yeah, man, my first career start, 2022 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Yeah, it was a fun game, went out there, we all did great as a team, and we went on a good little winning streak there at the end of the year.
Purdy: But from that moment on until now, I just feel like I've grown a lot with who I am as a person, as a quarterback, trying to grow my game.
Purdy: What I knew then compared to now is obviously night and day difference, and understanding still, though, that same love of the game that I had from my first start till now has been the same.
Purdy: I absolutely love this game and love playing quarterback and competing and doing everything I can to help take our organization to new heights. That's something that I really love. So, yeah.
Purdy: More in the sayings and things.
Purdy: Yeah, definitely, as a kid, growing up, I'd watch the NFL and stuff, and obviously, I just loved the game of football, and I wanted to be on the TV one day playing and throwing touchdowns and doing all those things.
Purdy: And so, obviously, that didn't just happen overnight. It happened by taking it one day at a time and loving the game, loving practices, loving the dog days, and the early morning workouts and all those things.
Purdy: I just loved that, and then keep my head down and go about high school and college and trying to make the NFL team.
Purdy: And then, I don't know, I've looked up now, and it's like, all right, here we are. I am doing what I dreamed of as a kid.
Purdy: So, with that being said, I don't take it for granted. I definitely wear my heart on my sleeve and have a chip on my shoulder to go out every day and play this game and know that it's not guaranteed tomorrow.
Purdy: So, that's how I look at it, but I definitely enjoy every single moment of it.
Purdy: Yeah, man, sort of just like what I said, I think my best advice would be just be where your feet are at.
Purdy: Don't look and try to be somewhere where you need to be, you know, in 15 years. It's just be where you're at right now.
Purdy: Go hard in your training, your preparation, and a lot of people are probably going to say, it's not possible, you can't do it, but telling you if you really do love what you do, it is possible.
Purdy: So, I would tell that to any kid out there, whether you're in Australia or any other country, the United States, it doesn't matter.
Purdy: I think it's the same thing. If you love what you do, then, you know, I think you can definitely go and achieve something pretty great.
Purdy: Is this a trap question?
Purdy: Yeah, same thing. I think, you know, you can definitely go all the way. It doesn't matter.
Purdy: I don't know who the Warriors are, to be honest, so I'm sorry.
Purdy: Yeah.
Purdy: Got you.
Purdy: Yeah, I mean, you got to start somewhere.
Purdy: So, I don't think you should buy into other people's opinions or criticisms.
Purdy: People are always going to have an opinion, but I think if you believe in yourself and you trust in your work ethic and the preparation that you've put in, yeah, you can go in.
Purdy: You can go do it all. So, yeah, good luck.
Purdy: 100%. It's cool just for me to sort of look at the receiver room and see, you know, Mike Evans and DeMarcus Robinson having Debo back, like some older guys, and then you got Stripling to be able to go and learn from those guys.
Purdy: And you can see him out on the practice field in between periods and stuff, just like talking and going over routes and stuff.
Purdy: And I just think overall, like just for Stripling, and Stripling knows it, like how blessed he is to have that kind of room, those older vets and stuff where he can learn.
Purdy: And the cool thing is he has put aside his ego and everything, and he knows that he's young, and he's got to learn and all that kind of thing.
Purdy: So, and he's doing that. So, that's why we all love Stripling, is because he's willing to learn.
Purdy: So, yeah, I think just the mindset that he's had has been really cool from day one till now, trying to come in, learn the playbook, you know, be where he needs to be, compete, go up and get the ball, like stuff like that that he's shown early on.
Purdy: He's still doing now, which is cool, but I just feel like he's a little bit more savvy now and understands, you know, right when he breaks a huddle, what he's got, and then he can go run his route confidently and just play himself and not overthink things, but just go out and play.
Purdy: So, I'm really excited to see him week one and what he does this year.
Purdy: Yeah, just really good in coverage.
Purdy: Obviously, I just think he's a guy that, you know, if you get a one-on-one opportunity and stuff, you know, you got to just be aware of like what he's capable of doing.
Purdy: He's great in coverage.
Purdy: And I think that's why the Rams obviously went out and got him, and it was a great addition for them in their defense, their scheme, and how they run things.
Purdy: But, you know, going back to playing against him the last couple years in my career, he's a guy that pops out on tape.
Purdy: And obviously, when I'm out in the game, you could definitely feel him making plays, you know, over and over again.
Purdy: So, I got a lot of respect for him and got to be aware of where he's at.
Purdy: I haven't been in it yet.
Purdy: Obviously, I've driven by, but, yeah, I've looked up, you know, games and stuff that have been played there, how loud it can get, and I'm really excited about it, obviously, but I think just understanding just the cadence that we have to be on, the noise and everything, handling that, the operation within the huddle, making sure guys can hear things, and I'm sure it's going to get pretty loud at times, which is cool.
Purdy: Those are fun environments to play in.
Purdy: So, I think that, and then, obviously, it is a big circle.
Purdy: So, like, the field will be in the middle of that circle.
Purdy: So, just like having fans sort of further away compared to right up on the sideline, I don't know if that'll be a big impact for me or not, but, yeah, that'll be something that's different.
Purdy: So, sorry, can you say that again?
Purdy: It's got to go.
Purdy: He might have. I can't remember.
Purdy: So, yeah, I'm sorry.
Purdy: Yeah, cool. Thanks, guys.
Purdy: How are we doing?
Purdy: I mean, just doing what, you know, what we normally do in a work week, just, you know, same old schedule, just trying to stay hydrated, you know, same routine.
Purdy: Yeah, and just doing our best to make sure we get in our sleep, make sure we practice, and, you know, make sure we're feeling our bodies the right way, and just, you know, everything we would normally do for a game week, we're still doing that.
Purdy: It's feeling great. Amazing.
Purdy: Yes, sir.
Purdy: Is there any plans for the game? Is it striking?
Purdy: Man, honestly, I have no idea. I couldn't tell you, man, I don't make those plans, but hopefully it's the second one.
Purdy: Yeah.
Purdy: It's a beautiful country.
Purdy: Man, it is. Like you said, it's beautiful.
Purdy: Yeah, the weather, I mean, you might get four seasons in one day, like I said, one line.
Purdy: And, yeah, I mean, it's just pretty, man.
Purdy: I mean, the people here are great people.
Purdy: Just, you know, everybody's pretty friendly.
Purdy: And, yeah, man, like it's just beautiful, man.
Purdy: We took a couple walks and, you know, great coffee, tried the coffee, and, yeah, the food is here.
Purdy: It's really good, too. Got some good seafood and all that good stuff, so it's been solid.
Purdy: Veggie who? The chips?
Purdy: Okay, I haven't, I haven't, I did the veggie chips.
Purdy: Okay, I did the veggie chips, but not the deal.
Purdy: No, I got you.
Purdy: I mean, it's great, honestly.
Purdy: I mean, just, you know, just being back with the guys and, you know, doing that in Australia.
Purdy: I mean, as a kid, you know, you kind of, you know, for me at least, I've kind of always wanted, you know, what's like, what's Australia like, you know what I mean?
Purdy: So, to be back with the guys and be somewhere where like, it's kind of like somewhere you never expect yourself to be, you know, it just kind of that, you know, God just puts you in these positions to, you know, that you've never been in, but you just trust him and, you know, he puts you exactly where you need to be in.
Purdy: You know, I'm just thankful to be on a, to be out here with the guys that I'm with.
Purdy: Yeah, I try not to think about it too much because I'm gonna get like, my heart get, get the beat and stuff like that.
Purdy: I might go hit somebody in practice, but I would just, I just kind of wait a little bit until it kind of really reflect on that, but there's been times, the closer and closer it gets, the more and more is just like, you just, you just feel it.
Purdy: Say that one more time, brother.
Purdy: Yeah, I mean, you know, at the end of the day, we're just worried about us, you know, we got a lot of guys that are playing a lot of football together and played at a really high level.
Purdy: So, I mean, we never, we never worry about what the other defense is going to do, how they're going to play or nothing like that, man.
Purdy: We just, we're worried about ourselves, our style, our standard and how we can bring that to Australia so y'all can see some American football.
Purdy: No doubt, no doubt.
Purdy: I mean, just, obviously him just been back on there.
Purdy: I mean, it just gave you a sense of confidence, you know what I mean, for the whole group.
Purdy: I mean, you just know you got one of your dogs back that's, you know, going to put it on the line for, for his teammates and, yeah, somebody, like I said, that's played a lot of ball.
Purdy: It done at a really high level and it's still one of the best of the best.
Purdy: I mean, just having this presence back, I mean, it's been, it's been confident building.
Purdy: I just love his energy.
Purdy: He's energetic.
Purdy: He's a leader and yeah, I mean, he loves football.
Purdy: So that's all you can really ask for, but I mean, his energy is contagious.
Purdy: He don't care to tell you how he feel and yeah, he's going to be honest and straightforward with guys and I mean, that's like I said, all you can ask for as a player and yeah, I mean, he loves the game.
Purdy: You know, he comes out with the same positive mindset, positive energy every day.
Purdy: And, you know, when that starts at the top, it just, you know, it's a trickle down effect and we definitely can feel it.
Purdy: The challenge and slowing them down.
Purdy: I mean, they're explosive offense.
Purdy: They got a lot of players that, you know, just like us and play a lot of ball at a really high level.
Purdy: You know, we got to make sure we get out to the quarterback.
Purdy: I mean, the quarterback is the main guy that kind of keeps everything going.
Purdy: He's good with his eyes.
Purdy: He's good in the ring defenses.
Purdy: He's good at giving the guy the ball.
Purdy: So just, yeah, just making sure we're executing, you know, we all got a job, we got an assignment.
Purdy: We all do our 111 at a high level, you know, it forces them to do that same thing.
Purdy: And then it's, okay, who can make the first mistake and you capitalize on it?
Purdy: Okay, man, I had them things lined up.
Purdy: I had a lot of questions.
Purdy: He got me on the spot.
Purdy: Damn, I can't think of it off my head, man, but I mean, it's just interesting being in another country, like, I mean, how far are we from Antarctica?
Purdy: That's what I got to ask, yeah.
Purdy: So like, I mean, we're like right on top of it, huh?
Purdy: Like, does it, it's snow.
Purdy: It's snow pretty, probably pretty bad here, huh?
Purdy: Not that bad.
Purdy: So is Antarctica, is it a lie? Is code in Antarctica?
Purdy: Yeah, I've been there before.
Purdy: Never been there.
Purdy: So how you know if it's code or not?
Purdy: Good day, everybody.
Purdy: I think extra long might be an overstatement, but it was long enough.
Purdy: So I got adequate rest.
Purdy: Let's see, we got here.
Purdy: Friday, that day we got here?
Purdy: All right, let's all run together.
Purdy: Probably like, out there about 48 hours, 36 hours, so it kind of started to feel a little normal.
Purdy: And out there about probably three, four days, it started to feel really normal.
Purdy: Well, I mean, it's, to me, tomato, tomato, it's whatever you believe in.
Purdy: The good thing about it is when you play a game, you got a lot of adrenaline, so I don't think that that would be a biggest factor as people think so.
Purdy: No, it looked pretty new, so I didn't know it was a historical marker, but I went to one of the AFL games, and so I got to see the surface, got to feel the atmosphere.
Purdy: It was a pretty dope experience, I must say.
Purdy: I wouldn't say that.
Purdy: It was a little bit, I don't know, it's hard to explain, like the stadium, it's like, I don't know.
Purdy: I didn't feel like it was like a college atmosphere.
Purdy: It almost felt like AI to me.
Purdy: Like, it was so many people, and like, I don't know.
Purdy: I never really seen something like that.
Purdy: Yeah, they further away, and the way it stands, like the bowl shape, it's kind of like, I don't know, it's just, it's very unique.
Purdy: What was your impressions of the AFL?
Purdy: The who?
Purdy: The AFL?
Purdy: Oh, the game's very entertaining.
Purdy: I was, obviously they were having to tell me the rules and stuff as it was going, but it's really, really entertaining.
Purdy: It's a, you know, it's a mashup of like three or four sports, and honestly, I kind of liked it.
Purdy: I liked it, I went home and watched the game, finished watching it on my TV.
Purdy: It got a little late, so we left, but I finished watching the game.
Purdy: I actually, I was very entertained.
Purdy: Any player?
Purdy: Nah, I ain't gonna lie, I don't know their names.
Purdy: You know what I'm saying? They were saying names, but they were also saying numbers.
Purdy: I'm a number guy, so, but nah, it was, I was just fascinated to see how 36 people on big old field and everybody just moving in harmony and how physical they were, how skilled it was, just, you know, and then how into the game the crowd was, and, you know, it was a really dope atmosphere.
Purdy: Yeah, I mean, you know, I played 99 virtually his whole career, so, very familiar with him.
Purdy: Obviously, he had a few battles with 95, so very familiar with him.
Purdy: So, obviously having him both on the same field would be a little different, but obviously he only got, me only got a block one at a time, so, nah, I didn't catch that one.
Purdy: I mean, he's professional, that's what he's supposed to do, I guess.
Purdy: Trent, do you have an idea of whether Aaron Dole will be even tougher coming out of retirement, or do you think he might be a stitch slower for the first game?
Purdy: I wouldn't be the one to say he'd be slower, slower or any different than the last time we seen him, so, that's what I would expect.
Purdy: I mean, I'm older than he is, so, it ain't like he, I expect him to come back old and slower, so I'm like, nah, I think he walked away from the game on his own terms, and it looks like he's coming back on his own terms, and nah, I expect him to be the same 99 that the league grew to fear, you know, I have no clue.
Purdy: I don't, you know, the only time I played, well, Mexico City, but, you know, that's kind of like Niner Country as well, but, you know, I played in London one time, and it was just, look in the stands, you see all 32 jerseys, so it's like, you know, I hear that there's a huge Niner fan base here, you know, I'm hoping it is, but, then again, I was kind of expecting to see all 32 jerseys in the stands, so.
Purdy: All right, it feels good to me, I mean, I play left tackle, so, you know.
Purdy: Yeah, they are, but, you know, we still, we work, and, you know, we work in tandem, but it's a lot of work that just, you know, one-on-one with the guy in front of you, but, yeah, we got competition at the left guard position, and, you know, I'll leave it up to coach and make the decision, but I think both of those guys are showing a lot of promise.
Purdy: Mike Evans, and your expectations?
Purdy: Okay.
Purdy: He's a gold jacket player, and it's kind of what you expect, you know, he ain't seen nothing less whenever he's been on the field, so that's what we expect.
Purdy: It's been cool having him around, just another veteran presence, another guy that's, you know, a household name, done this for a long, long time at a very high level, so just having him around for, you know, this young locker room, it's been valuable, 100%.
Purdy: Yeah, George is just an energy himself, regardless of whether you're coming back for practice, where you see him in the morning getting oatmeal, just, George is always going to hit you with the same burst of energy, the same smile, so, yeah, having him out there is always going to be a lift.
Purdy: Yeah, you know, our battle is a little different, because I don't really, we don't cross paths on a true one-on-one setting, you know, so it's, I can't really just say that we have these, like, legendary battles, but when I do go against him, he's just one of those guys that's, like, it's like trying to catch a fish in water with your bare hands, you know, very, very quick, very fast, very explosive, and does an amazing job with his hands and being able to clear your hands, get his hands on your pass, pull himself through.
Purdy: He just got a toolbox full of tools and he use them, and that's what makes him so hard to play, it's probably why he's going to go down to one of the best defense tackles ever to play the game.
Purdy: And you've got, you know, you've got the over-its on.
Purdy: Oh, man.
Purdy: Is that an addition to your outfit, your wardrobe, or is that something that's been a staple?
Purdy: No, actually, I think these, I think these are aloe, but, nah, I just, I just wanted some comfortable footwear while I'm over here doing a lot of walking throughout the hotel and stuff, and on the flight, clutch on the flight.
Purdy: The Australian Fed just wanted to see Prop 30, tell us a bit about Prop 30 and what makes him tick and how he commands the locker room.
Purdy: I think, you look at the definition of leader, I think Brock Purdy's picture is probably there.
Purdy: He's been a leader ever since he stepped on the field, he's been a Mr. irrelevant last pick in our draft.
Purdy: From playing with the threes all the way to playing with the ones, he's been the same person, been very constant, very, very confident to have a guy like that in the huddle.
Purdy: He commands the huddle, he never gets rattled, and, you know, some of the throws he makes under pressure is just, you know, nothing sort of phenomenal, so he's definitely wanted to, yeah, he's a treat to watch, so I'm excited for the Aussie fans to get that first glimpse of him, but, you know, he's the hardest over his team.
