Morris didn't announce Brock Purdy as the Week 1 starter. In a coach's press conference, that can be more useful than an announcement. When asked about Purdy, Morris didn't talk arm talent or scheme fit — he went straight to "preparation," "process," and ownership. That is how coaches talk about the player they are ready to hand the offense to.
1. The "process" quote is a role tell, not coachspeak. Morris: "He's very confident in himself and kind of his process."
That is a trust compliment, not a physical one. Morris is saying Purdy has earned responsibility that doesn't show up on a stat sheet. Just as important is what Morris did not say: no "open competition," no "we'll see how it shakes out." That silence matters in a QB room that still includes Mac Jones and Kurtis Rourke.
The numbers already explain why a larger Purdy role changes fantasy value. In 2025, Purdy played 9 games and threw 20 TDs against 10 INTs while adding 147 rushing yards and 3 rushing TDs. Mac Jones played 11 games and threw 13 TDs against 6 INTs with no rushing score. That is a significant fantasy-scoring gap. Treat Purdy as a QB1 in Superflex formats if this role materializes — and expect the 49ers' passing-game market to be underpriced until the depth chart catches up.
2. Kittle's health compounds with Purdy's added responsibility. Morris: "Kittle looks good."
Short quote. No lengthy caveat. That is the sound of a coach who is not worried about his TE's Week 1 availability. Kittle was already a per-game force in 2025 — 57 catches, 628 yards, 7 TDs in 11 games. If Purdy is trusted with more of the offense, that should only raise Kittle's red-zone floor rather than lower it.
3. Deebo is the short-area beneficiary of a more confident Purdy. Morris: "We got to get Deebo the ball, we got to get him his touches."
That is as close to a usage promise as a coach will make in September. Morris also called Deebo someone who can "affect the game in a lot of ways." In a Purdy-led offense, Deebo becomes the safe, manufactured-touch target who raises the completion floor. His 2025 Commanders line — 72 catches, 727 yards, 5 TDs in 16 games — shows he is still a volume receiver when the offense makes him a priority.
Each of these quotes points the same direction: Morris is not worried about quarterback execution, and he is not worried about his top receiving weapons. If Purdy's preparation is as "owned" as Morris says, this is a more stable offense than the market is treating it as. FanDuel's +1600 Super Bowl price on the 49ers still has room to firm up once that stability is confirmed.
