Five games on this card carry a 2.5-point spread. The three lowest totals on the board — 40.5, 41.5, 42.5 — belong to games the market cannot separate. That is the shape of Week 3: compression, not carnage. Kansas City at -10.5 and San Francisco at -8.5 are the outliers, the two numbers that look like they wandered in from a different slate.
Every number below is odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21. My rule for the week: the four highest totals go Over, everything beneath them goes Under, and I take the points wherever the price and the projection hand them to me.
Atlanta Falcons at Green Bay Packers
The line: Green Bay Packers -7, total 44.5, moneyline Green Bay Packers -345 / Atlanta Falcons +275 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: Green Bay is -345 and laying a full seven. Those are not the same bet. The market's projection — Atlanta Falcons 19, Green Bay Packers 26 — sits exactly on the number, so a Packers win by a touchdown returns nothing. I want the side where the push is my floor, not my ceiling. Both offenses are projected into the teens and twenties, which is why I am on the Under too. Best bet: Atlanta Falcons +7 Score: Atlanta Falcons 19, Green Bay Packers 26 Total: Under 44.5
Los Angeles Chargers at Buffalo Bills
The line: Buffalo Bills -7, total 50.5, moneyline Buffalo Bills -325 / Los Angeles Chargers +260 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: Second-highest total on the board, a -325 favorite, and I am still not laying the seven. Los Angeles at +260 is not a price the market sets for a team it expects to get blanked. If the Chargers score, seven becomes a hard number to clear, and I would rather hold it than need a two-score Buffalo night. Over 50.5 is the other half of the same opinion. Best bet: Los Angeles Chargers +7 Score: Los Angeles Chargers 22, Buffalo Bills 29 Total: Over 50.5
Seattle Seahawks at Washington Commanders
The line: Seattle Seahawks -6.5, total 40.5, moneyline Washington Commanders +235 / Seattle Seahawks -290 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: Lowest total on the card, 40.5, attached to a 6.5-point spread — and I am laying it. The projection is Seattle Seahawks 24, Washington Commanders 17, and that clears the line by the hook. Half a point is the whole argument. Under 40.5 is the companion. If Washington keeps this inside a field goal, I lose twice. Best bet: Seattle Seahawks -6.5 Score: Seattle Seahawks 24, Washington Commanders 17 Total: Under 40.5
New England Patriots at Jacksonville Jaguars
The line: Jacksonville Jaguars -2.5, total 44.5, moneyline Jacksonville Jaguars -148 / New England Patriots +124 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: Jacksonville is only -148 to win at home, which is not a price that describes dominance. When the moneyline is that short and the spread is 2.5, the dog is in a cheap seat. New England at +124 with the points. The projection — New England Patriots 21, Jacksonville Jaguars 24 — keeps it inside a field goal, so I am on Under 44.5 as well. Best bet: New England Patriots +2.5 Score: New England Patriots 21, Jacksonville Jaguars 24 Total: Under 44.5
Carolina Panthers at Cleveland Browns
The line: Carolina Panthers -2.5, total 41.5, moneyline Cleveland Browns +130 / Carolina Panthers -155 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: A road favorite at -155 in a game the market cannot separate, with the second-lowest total on the board. The favorite's price and the total are pulling in different directions, and I trust the total. Carolina Panthers 22, Cleveland Browns 20 is the projection: one score, no room to spare. Under 41.5. If Cleveland's offense shows up, I am wrong, and I will pay that at this number. Best bet: Under 41.5 Score: Carolina Panthers 22, Cleveland Browns 20 Total: Under 41.5
New York Jets at Detroit Lions
The line: Detroit Lions -6.5, total 48.5, moneyline Detroit Lions -285 / New York Jets +230 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: The one place I am happy to lay almost a touchdown. Detroit is -285 at home, the projection is New York Jets 21, Detroit Lions 28, and the market's own number clears the 6.5. Over 48.5 fits the same picture. The Jets at +230 say they will compete, not that they stay within a field goal. Best bet: Detroit Lions -6.5 Score: New York Jets 21, Detroit Lions 28 Total: Over 48.5
Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts
The line: Houston Texans -2.5, total 45.5, moneyline Indianapolis Colts +114 / Houston Texans -135 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: Houston favored by 2.5 on the road in a division game at -135 is the thinnest possible endorsement. The projection is Houston Texans 24, Indianapolis Colts 22 — a two-point game — and +114 on the home side is simply the better price. Indianapolis +2.5. Under 45.5 rides along; I think the two-point margin holds. Best bet: Indianapolis Colts +2.5 Score: Houston Texans 24, Indianapolis Colts 22 Total: Under 45.5
Kansas City Chiefs at Miami Dolphins
The line: Kansas City Chiefs -10.5, total 45.5, moneyline Miami Dolphins +470 / Kansas City Chiefs -650 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: Ten and a half. Biggest number on the board, -650 on the moneyline, and the projection is Kansas City Chiefs 28, Miami Dolphins 18 — the market itself does not get past the line. I will take Miami +10.5 and the Under 45.5. Both bets say the blowout is priced in, not real. Best bet: Miami Dolphins +10.5 Score: Kansas City Chiefs 28, Miami Dolphins 18 Total: Under 45.5
Tennessee Titans at New York Giants
The line: New York Giants -6, total 43.5, moneyline New York Giants -278 / Tennessee Titans +225 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: Six is a lot for a team the market only prices at -278. The projection — Tennessee Titans 19, New York Giants 25 — is a six-point game against a six-point line, which is a push, not a cover. New York laying six has no margin at all. Under 43.5 is the cleaner expression, and Tennessee's +225 says the clock stays relevant. Best bet: Under 43.5 Score: Tennessee Titans 19, New York Giants 25 Total: Under 43.5
Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers
The line: Cincinnati Bengals -3.5, total 42.5, moneyline Pittsburgh Steelers +154 / Cincinnati Bengals -185 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: A pure divisional price. Cincinnati -3.5 in Pittsburgh, Steelers +154, total 42.5 — third-lowest on the board. The projection is Cincinnati Bengals 23, Pittsburgh Steelers 20, which hands Pittsburgh the spread, not just the hook. Steelers +3.5 and Under 42.5. If Cincinnati wins by a touchdown, both go against me. Best bet: Pittsburgh Steelers +3.5 Score: Cincinnati Bengals 23, Pittsburgh Steelers 20 Total: Under 42.5
Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers
The line: San Francisco 49ers -8.5, total 48.5, moneyline San Francisco 49ers -455 / Arizona Cardinals +350 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: San Francisco is -455 and laying 8.5, and I am not laying it. The projection is Arizona Cardinals 20, San Francisco 49ers 28 — eight points against a line asking for nine. That is the hook doing the work, and Arizona at +350 is getting the benefit. The total, 48.5, is among the four highest on the card, so Over there despite the lopsided moneyline. Best bet: Arizona Cardinals +8.5 Score: Arizona Cardinals 20, San Francisco 49ers 28 Total: Over 48.5
Minnesota Vikings at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The line: Minnesota Vikings -2.5, total 43.5, moneyline Tampa Bay Buccaneers +114 / Minnesota Vikings -135 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: Minnesota -2.5 on the road at -135 with a 43.5 total. The projection is Minnesota Vikings 23, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20 — three points against a 2.5 line, so the favorite gets there on the market's own math. Vikings and the Under together. Both bets say low possessions, decided by a field goal. Best bet: Minnesota Vikings -2.5 Score: Minnesota Vikings 23, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20 Total: Under 43.5
Las Vegas Raiders at New Orleans Saints
The line: New Orleans Saints -3.5, total 44.5, moneyline New Orleans Saints -175 / Las Vegas Raiders +145 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: New Orleans laying 3.5 at home at -175 is a price I will pay. The projection is Las Vegas Raiders 20, New Orleans Saints 24 — four points against a 3.5 line, half a point of cushion on the favorite. Under 44.5 comes with it. The Raiders at +145 are the side the market is nudging you toward, and that is usually the side I leave alone. Best bet: New Orleans Saints -3.5 Score: Las Vegas Raiders 20, New Orleans Saints 24 Total: Under 44.5
Baltimore Ravens at Dallas Cowboys
The line: Baltimore Ravens -3, total 52.5, moneyline Dallas Cowboys +130 / Baltimore Ravens -155 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: Highest total on the card at 52.5, and I am on the Over without hedging. Baltimore at -155 on a three-point spread is a modest price for a road favorite, and the projection — Baltimore Ravens 28, Dallas Cowboys 25 — describes a game that ends on the last possession. Dallas +3 gives me the push in the worst case. Over and Cowboys +3 are the same game seen twice. Best bet: Dallas Cowboys +3 Score: Baltimore Ravens 28, Dallas Cowboys 25 Total: Over 52.5
Los Angeles Rams at Denver Broncos
The line: Los Angeles Rams -2.5, total 45.5, moneyline Denver Broncos +114 / Los Angeles Rams -135 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: Denver at +114 at home with the Rams laying 2.5. The projection is Los Angeles Rams 24, Denver Broncos 22 — the visitor needs three, the game is worth two. Small margins again, so I take the home dog and the Under 45.5. If the Rams win by a field goal I lose the side and likely win the total. I accept that split. Best bet: Denver Broncos +2.5 Score: Los Angeles Rams 24, Denver Broncos 22 Total: Under 45.5
Philadelphia Eagles at Chicago Bears
The line: Philadelphia Eagles -4.5, total 44.5, moneyline Chicago Bears +164 / Philadelphia Eagles -198 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21) The read: Philadelphia at -198 is a thin favorite's price, and the line is 4.5. The projection — Philadelphia Eagles 24, Chicago Bears 20 — gives Chicago the number outright. Bears +4.5 at +164, and Under 44.5 as well. A four-point projected margin inside a 44.5 total is not a game that gets away from anybody. Best bet: Chicago Bears +4.5 Score: Philadelphia Eagles 24, Chicago Bears 20 Total: Under 44.5
Here is what beats me. Kansas City winning by two scores in Miami, San Francisco winning by nine or more, Green Bay and Buffalo each winning by eight-plus: four covers at the top of the board and my compression story is just a story about a slate that turned out ordinary. If instead three of those five 2.5-point games land inside a field goal, I read the board right.
