Here's the call: cut him. If your league has an IR slot and he's eligible, stash him there. Otherwise, do not hold a bench spot for a player with no defined return date. The exempt list is not a hamstring strain with a four-week recovery. It is a discipline and legal black box. The chance he plays in Week 1 is effectively zero, and his season-long value is now speculative. Roster spots have real value in October, and you can't afford to bury one in a player who might not take the field at all.
The Cowboys' backfield took a hit too, but a smaller one. Jaydon Blue was waived, which means Dallas decided he wasn't a top-53 player. Blue was a late-round fantasy afterthought, and now he's an afterthought on the waiver wire. If a team with a depleted backfield claims him, he's a deep stash at best. The cutdown-wave lesson is to watch for unheralded running backs who suddenly become starters. But chase opportunity, not names. A backup behind an injured starter is worth a claim. A waiver claim for Blue, a player his own team gave up on, is not.
