Geno Smith addressed the media following the Jets' preseason game on August 21, 2026. This press conference provided an opportunity for Smith to reflect on his experience returning to the field with the Jets and his outlook for the upcoming season.

Smith: Do you know, welcome back. How'd it feel to be a jet again on a field with a different team out there playing defense today? I just felt good to go out there and be able to at least get one drive in with the guys. Felt good to be playing football again, so I'm happy about that.
Smith: Yeah, just anytime you touch the ball, we got to think we have that score mindset. And that's something that we always want to do. We want to score points when we get the ball, especially early in the game, give our defense a lead to play with and hopefully score a lot more points.
Smith: It's been coming along well. We've been having some tough days in practice, man. Coach is making sure that we're going through it as far as getting all the reps. And he's given us every single situation you can think of. So he's preparing us the right way. And I believe that this offense and this team has got a lot of room for improvement, but so far, so good.
Smith: I just feel like it's a full circle moment. At this point in my career, I have a lot of football left in me and I believe this team is a team that's on the rise. After talking to Coach Glenn in the off season, I felt like I wanted to align myself with that. His vision was for me to be a part of that. So I look forward to just every single opportunity that I get to go out there and play with these guys. We got big expectations, but it's one step at a time, one day at a time.
