Aaron Glenn, Head Coach of the Jets, addressed the media during a press conference on September 8, 2026, as the team prepared for their upcoming season opener. He provided updates on player injuries and expressed optimism about the team's readiness for the first game of the season.

Glenn: Good afternoon. When it comes to injuries, I give you guys a more detailed update at the end of the week. But for the most part, the guys that I said that will be trending as far as plan be up for this week, the same guys. They'll be getting some playing time. The only one that I will say that's probably week to week still, which hasn't been changed, is OSI. All right. And again, I will give you a more detailed update as we get towards the end of the week.
Glenn: As far as this week is concerned, I'm looking for our guys. They have a great practice. I'm excited going into our first week of a real game. Our guys will be ready, coach will be ready, and we're all looking forward to this one.
Glenn: He's trending, yeah, he's trending towards plan. He'll be practicing this week. Yep.
Glenn: Yeah, he'll be practicing this week.
Glenn: It's gotten quiet. That's awkward.
Glenn: The kicking situation? Yeah, groupies job now, or well, we still have Jason that's on the practice squad. Yeah, and I'm gonna let that play out. All right, those guys can continue to kick, continue to compete. Then again, we'll make the right decision when that decision needs to be done.
Glenn: Not really. I said it before, I'm not gonna panic about that situation. I think they're both capable men. All right, and at the end of the day, we got to pick one guy that's gonna be a kicker.
Glenn: Yeah, the one thing that really shows up is his ability to make all the throws in these different arm angles. I think that's pretty impressive by him. He clearly has an understanding of the offense when you see the RPOs he's running, to see the no huddle that he's running. So you can tell him and Day Ball's in lock step.
Glenn: Obviously, it wasn't everything they do when it comes to preseason, which we all know. But I just knowing him and how he operates and how he did in college, he's gonna be a guy that's gonna be a challenge, and we all know that. The players all know that too, you know? So, but we're up for the challenge, you know, it is what it is.
Glenn: But again, he has more athleticism than I think people give him credit for also, you know, so that's something we have to look at. You know, especially when he starts to move around, start making these off-platform throws, because he does a really good job of that.
Glenn: I don't think it's any different than my time in Detroit when I was the play caller. I sit in the meeting room with the defensive guys. We formulate the plan on how we want to attack the team. We put things down on the wall, say, okay, that we like this, like that, like this, and then we start subtracting things that we feel like we need to take out, and we come up with a really nice plan that we think our guys are like, and then we present that plan to the players.
Glenn: And I'm in the defensive meeting room, and I'm a part of that. That part really excites me, you know, 'cause I like being a part of that process. And again, it's been like riding a bike, you know, 'cause I'm only a year removed away from being able to do that. So to be able to be a part of that process again, it's felt good.
Glenn: Discipline, discipline, go after the football, sure tacklers, no explosive plays, things like that that I feel like, and they understand, to help win games.
Glenn: Yeah, well, we'll have a number of periods in practice to where we call opportunity periods, and he'll be a huge part of that. It could be ten to twelve plays, you know, with some of the younger guys that probably don't get as many reps in practice, get a chance to get the reps at that point. May not be highly competitive, you know? So those are the ways that he will continue to develop and also be to evaluate him in that aspect.
Glenn: Yeah, you were here with the Jets, yes.
Glenn: Yeah, well, I'm gonna answer the last one first because it's hard to relate to that. I don't think you can relate any aspect of life to that. That was a change of life moment, if that makes sense.
Glenn: And I just recall I was actually in the training room. I was getting treatment, and I think I was talking to my wife. My phone just goes off, and just seeing exactly what's happening, and it was almost like live at that point. You're in this state of wow that you can't believe happening, and plus, like in your lifetime, you're seeing this happen.
Glenn: So it's still really hard to pinpoint. It's still really sad to think about the lives that were lost, but it still makes you proud of the people that were a part of to help and save like that. I'm proud of that. I'm proud to know that you have men and women that risk their lives for the well-being of other people because that's what we're made of, and sometimes we lose sight of that.
Glenn: So can't relate to anything, but I am proud of the men and women that served our country to help, you know, in that aspect.
Glenn: At the risk of a very poor transition into that, but with this game, there's a lot being made of you and Sala being your predecessor and so forth. I'm wondering what's your mindset in terms of that? You know him at all, and you've crossed paths with him. What do you think of him as a coach?
Glenn: Yeah, we know each other just from being in coaching circles and just talking ball. And I get it. I mean, it goes with the territory of Sala once it's been here and then I step in as the head coach.
Glenn: But to me, I'll look at it, it's a game that we're going to win, and it doesn't matter who it is. I mean, that's the mindset of these players, that's the mindset of this coaching staff, that's the mindset of this organization. Our job is to go out there and play this game and be the best that we can be on every play and to go out there and win a game, hands down. Nothing else, just to be thought of. And that's how I look at it.
Glenn: Absolutely. You have to take every bit of information and try to figure out, like, because there aren't a lot of people that just totally change who they are, you know? Obviously, there's gonna be some wrinkles out to our guys. We have to be ready for in-game adjustments. That's gonna be one of the biggest parts of this game. It's how we adjust that could be adjusted on the sideline on the fly, that can be adjusted at halftime.
Glenn: Oh, it's what they're doing, you know? So, and our guys understand that, but you look at every bit of information that you can just try to get something on how these guys operate. And again, even for me, I'm sure they're gonna look at some things that I've done in Detroit, you know, see if that's what we're doing, probably practicing some of those concepts.
Glenn: And I understand that, but to me, that's exactly what we do, what he did with the Giants, now what he did in preseason, what Sala did in San Francisco, even some of the things that he did here, you know, with the Jets. We know some of those concepts are gonna show up, you know, but we also know it's gonna be a wrinkle here and there.
Glenn: Successful season, obviously winning when it, I mean, hands down, effort, discipline.
Glenn: As far as, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, because we have the bonus day on Monday, and I want to make sure, well, after that bonus day, man, we go into some of the concepts that we talked about right from yesterday.
Glenn: So we want to really dive deeper, not today, and then have the off day on Wednesday, then go to our third down. So now we're back on track when it comes to how we want to operate on a weekly basis. I think that takes care of itself.
Glenn: So you win. So I don't think you need to talk about that. I think you would just win games. The playoffs is a byproduct of doing that. So the players are well aware of that. So let's just take every game, let's talk about how do we win this game and focus in on that, right? And once we do that, then we go to the next game. Once we do that, we go to the next game, and at the end of this thing is done, all right, our work is gonna tell us exactly what we need to be.
Glenn: Yeah, you're the last one.
Glenn: Now that you're calling a defense, does it change anything you're doing in terms of managing the game timeouts?
Glenn: That's, yeah, yeah, that's a good question.
Glenn: Yeah, yeah, well, I would have that flag. But, um, I would have that flag, and for the most part, my responsibilities doesn't change. But I do have people around me, right, that help me when it comes to that.
Glenn: Now, I think that's important, especially as a play caller, and when I'm diving deep into, okay, so what am I thinking of the next series? All right, I'm still looking at the office. I'm still helping Frank in decision when it comes to that.
Glenn: I'm still looking at, man, does this really go with the philosophy of what I want to do when it comes to fourth downs, when it comes to the two-minute? Yeah, I will always be a part of that, but I do have people that help me when it comes to making those decisions.
Glenn: Yeah, but at the end of the day, it's my decision to make, you know, and I understand that, but I think that's a smart thing to do is try to surround yourself with people that can help you when it comes to all aspects of this game.
