Sit him. This isn't a coin flip wearing a rankings debate.
Herbert has failed to throw multiple touchdown passes in seven of his past eight games. That's not a slump, that's an identity. Eight games is a long enough window that the pattern stops being noise and starts being the player.
Touchdown passes are the currency of quarterback fantasy scoring. Herbert hasn't been paying.
Now add the matchup. Seattle has allowed just six red-zone trips across three weeks. Six, over three games, which works out to two per opponent. The Seahawks aren't giving offenses the cheap real estate where quarterback touchdowns get manufactured. Stack a passer who can't reach multiple scores against a defense that won't let anyone reach the goal line, and you have the least appealing start on the board.
So the call is bench, and it's bench in every format where you have a live alternative. If you don't have an alternative, you're streaming anyway, which means you already weren't starting Herbert with conviction. Nothing about this week changes that math.
What would change my mind? Two things, and I want both before I move him back into lineups. First, Herbert throwing multiple touchdown passes in consecutive games, not one. One outlier against a soft opponent proves nothing when seven of the last eight went the other way. Second, evidence that Seattle's red-zone trips allowed are climbing. If a single opponent blows past the two-trips-per-game pace the Seahawks have held over three weeks, that's a crack. Until I see it, there's no crack.
I'd rather start a lesser quarterback in a better spot than chase Herbert's ceiling into this matchup. Play the schedule, not the name.
If he throws for three Sunday, I'll be wrong, and I'll own it. I just don't think that's the likelier version of Week 4. He stays on benches until further notice.
