Titans at Giants: New York Lays Six With a Six-Point Offense
The Giants scored six points in Los Angeles last week. Sunday at MetLife Stadium, they're asking you to lay six.
That's the tension in this one, and it's why our published play is the total rather than the side. New York is 1-1: a 28-20 win over Dallas at home, then a 6-28 loss at the Rams. Tennessee is 0-2, having lost 10-23 to the Jets and 20-24 to Philadelphia. The market has settled on six, with a total of 43.5 and moneylines of New York -278 and Tennessee +225 (odds via ESPN, captured Mon Sep 21).
Six is a lot for a team the market only prices at -278. Our projection is Tennessee Titans 19, New York Giants 25, and by the publication's own read that's a push against the number, not a cover. New York covering means winning by more than the cushion it's been handed, and the first two weeks don't show an offense that can manufacture that.
Look at what the Giants actually have on the sheet. Thirty-four points scored, 48 allowed. Twenty-eight of those points arrived in one afternoon against Dallas. The other six came in a game the Rams had settled well before the fourth quarter. Tennessee, meanwhile, has 30 points for and 47 against, and its Week 2 result is the one that matters most here: a 20-24 loss to Philadelphia, a game the Titans were in until the end.
That's why the moneyline price is as interesting as the spread. Tennessee at +225 is the clock staying relevant. If the Titans are within a score late, the six points New York is laying is exposure, not insurance.
The matchup that decides it is New York's offense against a Tennessee defense that has allowed 47 points. If the Giants move the ball the way they did against Dallas, the under gets uncomfortable in a hurry. If they don't, Tennessee has to generate the points itself, and 30 across two games is the entire sample.
I'm not touching the favorite. Our call is Titans 19, Giants 25, with Under 43.5 as the best bet, because neither offense has shown it can sustain drives and one of these teams just got held to six points.
What breaks the under is the other half of the same sheet. These defenses have leaked. New York has allowed 48 points, Tennessee 47, and if both offenses find a rhythm early at MetLife, a total of 43.5 goes thin fast. That's the risk we're carrying, and it's real. It's still the right side of this game.
