Injury Recovery Roadmaps Set for Nabers and Skattebo Entering 2026 Offseason

As the New York Giants transition into the 2026 offseason, the medical and rehabilitation timelines for two key offensive players are coming into focus. General manager Joe Schoen addressed the media on January 27, 2026, providing updates on wide receiver Malik Nabers and running back Cam Skattebo, both of whom ended the 2025 season on injured reserve with significant injuries.

Wide receiver Malik Nabers, who suffered a torn ACL in Week 15 of the 2025 season, is facing a standard recovery timeline of 9-12 months. Schoen confirmed that Nabers is expected to miss the entirety of the Giants' 2026 offseason program, including OTAs and minicamp. The goal is for him to be ready for the start of training camp in late July, but that will depend on his progress. Nabers' absence creates a major opportunity for other receivers on the roster and will likely influence the team's approach to adding pass-catching talent this offseason.

The situation for running back Cam Skattebo is more complex. Skattebo sustained a devastating right leg injury on October 27, 2025, against the Philadelphia Eagles, which included a dislocated ankle, fractured fibula, and ruptured deltoid ligament. He underwent successful surgery shortly after the injury. While Schoen reported a positive long-term prognosis, the recovery process is extensive and measured. Skattebo is not expected to be a full participant at the start of training camp and may begin the 2026 season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. His rehab will be one of the most closely monitored within the organization throughout the spring and summer.

These updates solidify these positions as areas of need for the Giants as they build their 2026 roster. The team must plan for the early-season absence of its top wideout and prepare for depth at running back behind Tyrone Tracy Jr., knowing Skattebo's return to full strength may not come until well into the season, if at all in 2026.
