Transcript

Fangio: You guys got a treat today coach for meal. We'll be here. I've been up there visiting with him.

Fangio: It's fine always. Yeah, they can you know, it doesn't matter if my mind's made up or not it's how he and Nick's mind's gotta be made up. You know, everybody's a little different. But you see it every year that some guys they're struggling struggling struggling it just something happens that they're able to turn the corner a little bit and just so happened that it was him in the first preseason game and he carried it over to last week and hopefully this will continue now. He's got to be able to do it against the frontline players.

Fangio: To this battle at safety with Epson Carter any closer to?

Fangio: No, it's close. It is close, you know, Michael has been doing a good job back there. It's just all new to him and we need to get him more exposure, which is hard to do. But I do think Michael eventually can do it.

Fangio: At the end of the camp what's that now that we're at the end of camp how would you assess reach summer?

Fangio: Overall good, you know, he's had his moments where he can get a little sloppy. We need to eliminate those and hopefully once the regular season starts that will happen, but we like him. I like him a lot. I like the player. I like the person I like I like being around him and I like coaching.

Fangio: Maxin yeah, good, you know, I think those guys, you know going back, you know your question there they're still alive, you know in this game will mean something to them.

Fangio: Yeah, he's done I think he's done well, you know, you have our offense in particular too. You're gonna you have to play off a little bit more. You know cuz they'll stack and bunch people and so it's been a good camp for him in that way, but he's getting better at it for sure.

Fangio: Situation is that something that might could go right up until game day?

Fangio: Go up until when game game before you decide?

Fangio: Game day of the first day. No, we'll decide before then.

Fangio: At the time you guys drafted Jaylen's a message was versus look like in year three now that you're in year three. Is this what you expected? Is it beyond what you expected? How do you explain?

Fangio: It's what I expected and hoped for but now I you know, hope for and expect for more too.

Fangio: And what's that look like? What's what's the next?

Fangio: I don't know that. You stop asking that you but all you am I surprised is this unexpected, you know where it's that's who he is just keeping point it out and he knows it, you know, it's not like he denies it. It's just some guys sometimes could happen to some guys and we just got to try and eliminate that.

Fangio: While there's still today's practice to go what's been your overall take away the defense during this camp?

Fangio: You know, it's it's been a good camp. You know, we're we're never I think a lot of guys need some more developing some more reps, but that's just the way it is and and then whatever it is two weeks from now we got a game or three weeks. Whatever it is.

Fangio: Last two weeks pretty much all camp.

Fangio: It's defensive coordinator on the same team of that quarterback. Like how do you how do you view that?

Fangio: How do you how do I do? What when the quarterback that place of your team throws a lot of interceptions?

Fangio: Oh well, it's good for the defense which is good for the team. You know now he's learning a new office. I think he's trying things I'm seeing what's available. What isn't available. So I don't think that's gonna carry over.

Fangio: Cornerback you know, I feel good about cue and reek. You know, John Jones has missed a lot of time here. So hopefully we can get him back at some point. I think Mac has made a lot of strides. He's dinged right now a little bit that when they able to finish the other night.

Fangio: Keely I think is making strides. You know, those are the five main ones and plus the guys that are competing for the six spot.

Fangio: It's been good, you know, he's he knows he knows our defense from the safety's position. He's reliable in that regard he's trustworthy and you know, I think he's a guy that's you know we'll have a spot, you know somewhere along the line, but we like him.

Fangio: Seems like Ty Robinson continues to come on. Is he as he earned a spot your defense attack rotation?

Fangio: Yeah, he probably has. I mean you know when you say rotation, I don't know what that means and meaning meaning how many plays that means but yeah.

Fangio: Yeah, Jordan left a little early last night from practices.

Fangio: Yeah, but he came back. He came back.

Fangio: Last few roster spots obviously, I'm sure your voice is taking into account.

Fangio: Well, historically how wouldn't you found the new value in those last few guys that were the defensive side and I mean how much the specialties factor in?

Fangio: Yeah, I mean that special teams does play a factor, you know it the last few spots are always a story in and of itself, you know, it might be a guy that's not ready to play and you might not think he's ready to play the entire year, but you want them sometimes that happens sometimes it's a guy that you think can help us in a pinch, you know if we had need it.

Fangio: As I said special teams is a big thing just numbers to you there's minimal numbers you need at every position. You know, you need five or six defensive linemen to make the roster you need eight to nine outside backers and inside backers to make the roster minimum, you know, so the numbers is part of it also.

Fangio: Personally, but obviously for the long your years you want to win now I mean like how do you accept they're gonna tell you two guys? We're gonna be on the 53, but they're not gonna play the entire?

Fangio: That's just part of it. You know, yeah, we all want to win now but it's Howie's job to always be building the team for future years too.

Fangio: It's our first time talking since before that joint practice what stood out watching them?

Fangio: Yeah, I thought those two practices against the Patriots were our two most beneficial and valuable practices the entire year tire camp. Just like I said before, you know, it's a different style offense so that was great in and of itself. They have a good group of receivers that was good to go against. Way different offensive scheme than ours great to go against.

Fangio: Yeah, those were two really really good practices, you know, we had I think like 80 some plays the first day 50 some 60 maybe the second day would have red zone focus fantastic practices.
