Dallas Goedert has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Bears, closing a week in which the Eagles' tight end never practiced. That's it. That's the whole official story, and it's worth being precise about what it does and doesn't tell us.
What it tells us: Philadelphia goes into a Monday night road game without its starting tight end. Goedert's value in this offense has never been the highlight-reel stuff. It's the dirty work, the inline blocking snaps that let the Eagles stay in heavier personnel without tipping the run, and the third-and-six conversions that quietly keep drives alive. Take that off the field and the offense has to solve a problem it usually doesn't think about.
What it doesn't tell us: who actually absorbs those snaps. This is where the fantasy reflex gets it wrong. The consensus move is to sprint to the waiver wire and grab whoever is listed second on the depth chart, on the assumption that Goedert's targets get handed to him like a set of keys. That's not how offenses work. Vacated tight end snaps get redistributed in three directions at once: a backup eats the blocking downs, the slot receiver eats the intermediate work, and the running back eats the checkdowns. The backup usually gets the smallest share of the three.
There's a second thread here that matters more than the first. My verdict, and I'll own it: the fantasy market will overpay for Goedert's replacement and underrate the Bears' side of this matchup. Goedert's absence costs Philadelphia more as a blocker than as a receiver, and the box score won't show it. If you're setting a lineup, the safer play is fading the entire Eagles tight end room Monday and betting the offense leans on its receivers instead. If Ertz is also out, fade harder.
