Week 4 Fantasy Inactives: Daniels and DeVonta Are Out, and McConkey Is the Real Decision

Two of these are decisions. One is a coin flip wearing a decision's clothes.

ESPN's Week 4 inactives report rules out Daniels and DeVonta Smith and lists McConkey as questionable, updated against the latest reports and official announcements right up to kickoff. That is the whole of what we have, and it's enough to act on.

Fantasy managers blur categories every Sunday, and it costs them. "Out" is information. "Questionable" is the absence of it. The first tells you what to do. The second only tells you when you'll find out.

If Daniels or DeVonta Smith is in your lineup, take them out now. Don't hold a slot warm for a player the team has already declared down. The replacement you can name this morning beats the one you're scrambling to name inside the 90 minutes before kickoff, when the inactive lists drop and every other manager in your league is doing the same frantic arithmetic.

McConkey is the one worth thinking about. The questionable tag has softened over the past decade into something close to probable, and teams have every incentive to leave a starter listed that way rather than hand an opponent a tell. Start him if he's active. Queue the pivot in that same lineup slot anyway, because if he's scratched you get one move and no time to research it.

That is the real strategic problem with the Sunday inactives report. It arrives late by design, and it punishes anyone who waited on it to make a choice they could have made Friday.

My call, and I'll own it: bench the two names already ruled out, start McConkey if he's up, and don't burn a waiver claim or a roster spot on insurance you'll drop by Monday. The report will update. Your lineup won't wait.
