Colts Rule Out Ashton Dulin for Sunday's Game Against Houston
The Indianapolis Colts have ruled out wide receiver Ashton Dulin for Sunday's Week 3 game against the Houston Texans, per Yahoo Sports and Pro Football Talk.
That is the entire news release, and it still matters more than a depth-chart footnote usually would.
Dulin's absence thins a receiver group that has already had a rough September. Keenan Allen, the veteran Indianapolis added this offseason, was arrested on OWI charges in late August, according to Fox 59. Whatever the courts do with that case, the football consequence is real: the Colts have been working from a narrower set of pass-catchers than they planned on when camp opened, and Sunday's inactive list squeezes it again.
So the offensive staff has a decision to make. Someone who hasn't been in the weekly rotation now has to absorb snaps, and the Colts have to decide whether those snaps come from a fourth receiver or from heavier personnel that asks more of the tight ends and backs. Against a Houston team that knows this roster well, that choice is not cosmetic. It changes who the quarterback trusts on third down.
The temptation is to call this a one-week problem. Dulin is out for one game, not the season, and there's no indication from the team that this is anything longer. Fine. But rosters are tested in exactly this way, by the third receiver who can't go in Week 3, and Indianapolis is now finding out how much cushion it actually built behind its starters. My read: the Colts survive this against Houston, but if the receiver room loses one more body before October, the passing game stops looking like the strength this roster was assembled around. That's a bet I'm willing to make in writing, and it's the kind of thing that looks obvious in hindsight.
Dulin's status beyond Sunday isn't addressed in the team's ruling. The Colts play the Texans, and then they reassess.
