Hunter Wohler spoke at a media availability for the Indianapolis Colts on September 7, 2026. The press conference provided an opportunity for Wohler to discuss his experiences returning to the field after a challenging previous season.

Wohler: It was amazing just to get back out in the field and just, you know, just get back into playing the game because obviously last season was long and hard for me. So yeah, just getting back in the field was amazing and being able to be out there and celebrate with the guys and just have fun.
Wohler: I feel like until this year where, like, when you're actually on the field, you pick up things a lot quicker and, you know, making mistakes, like you make a mistake on the field. You're not going to make it again. And just like there's little stuff like that. Like you can only watch it so much before you need to be on the field to really understand it and see it for yourself. So yeah, getting back out there was great. Being able to evaluate my play myself, you know, where, where I felt I, you know, excelled and where I felt I need improvement on from camp and everything like that. Yeah. It's great just to be back out there.
Wohler: I mean, for me, being with him every day and stuff is, his intelligence is what makes him so versatile. Like he just, he sees the game, he understands the game. Like he just, he knows right where he needs to be. And he knows what to expect from the offense. So that's what impresses me the most and gives him, you know, the opportunity to be put in so many different positions and play all over the field and make so many plays. So yeah, just his intelligence is, it's impressive. So it's great that I get to bounce things off him and learn from him every single day.
Wohler: I would say so. Yeah. I mean, just, you know, I missed obviously all last season. So you're not in all the meetings and you're not, like I said, being on the field before, but just being around, seeing how he calls the defense, seeing, you know, situationally when he wants to make calls. You know, you learn from it. You understand kind of where his head's at, where his head's at a little bit and try to, you know, take that into every single play.
Wohler: Yes and no. There's, I mean, it's a lot. It's definitely a lot, especially the adjustment from college. But once you understand the bigger picture and everything, it starts to get a little bit easier.
Wohler: I think we have more flexibility going into year two. Obviously, everyone has one year under their belt with that playbook in the system. So now that you have that, you don't have to think as much while you play. So now you can start getting a little more creative and add in some different personnel groupings and some different, you know, just some different calls overall. So I think there's definitely flexibility to be had.
Wohler: A lot of confidence, not only me, but I think the guys around me that kind of believe in my preparation, what I do and just how I see the field, you know. And I just think year two, or year three, or year two as a starter, you just see the field a lot faster, you know. You've seen a lot of the looks that you can get. I just think it kind of speeds up your gameplay and your mentality.
Wohler: I just think, you know, the ability to kind of use certain plays or have kind of schemes that really work together in tandem. You know, when Daniel started to kind of become less mobile and then obviously have him fill up who isn't quite as young as he once was. So tremendous though. But kind of, I would say, made us a little more maybe predictable. But I think this year, we've done a good job of kind of getting back to that stuff we did the first couple weeks of the year and excited to see what we can do going forward.
Wohler: Absolutely. I think, you know, we treat those joint practices like games in themselves. You know, obviously it's not quite like a game where you're getting ready on Sunday going out there. But I would say the preparation we put into the game plan, you know, kind of studying your opponent, being confident in, you know, what we're doing, the plan and how we're going to execute as an O-line and just being on the same page as a unit is really important in those practices. And I think, you know, we've done a really good job of making the most of every one of those reps and really learning a lot from them.
Wohler: I mean, I think I got to focus on doing my job first, but obviously at some point, I look up and JT sprinting down the sideline. And I think at that point, it's like a kid in a candy store. You know, I'm excited. I'm all smiles and I'm sprinting to the end zone to go celebrate.
Wohler: Well, it's big time. You know, obviously certain teams will want to tie you up on the down linemen and not allow you to get to the second level and kind of let those guys be free runners, free hitters at the back. And as an O-line, it's something we try to take pride in, you know, not letting there be a lot of. You know, obviously there's going to be certain plays, certain times where, you know, they're good players too. They make plays and they're going to be this on certain things. But we try for the most part to get on second level because if we can get JT to the third, get him on 80s and corners, he's going to make something you miss and make it a big one.
