Jones: No, I don't have any question or worries or anything like that. I think they'll go out and do what they're supposed to do. We talk about all the time, it's just, as long as they know what to do, I think they'll execute. But it really starts with knowing what to do and how they study and how they prepare for this week, right? That may be a little different, cuz not preseason game, but I don't really worry about that.
Jones: I think it's just grasp of the offense and how much he understands the offense, how fast he can play and really how much the game has slowed down for him. I think it's always an adjustment when you first get in the league of guys move a little bit faster, disguises get a little bit better. But once you start to see the differences start to pick up on things, I think that's really helped him play faster.
Jones: I'm a team player, I don't wanna be selfish. So whatever helps him and whatever wins us a game is how we need to use them. So I think we got a really great sports science team here that keep track of all that and I'm just here to make sure he knows the plays and how to run them on offense, so.
Jones: I think it's, you made a great point, which is there's a lot of diversity. And it's just making sure we put them in the right places at the right time to take advantage of whether the defense presents. I think that's the right thing. It helps you put guys in positions that you know they can thrive in and make things difficult or confusing for the defense. So it just makes our job a lot easier.
Jones: He's adjusted well. He's done a great job. I think it's still the same thing we expect when we go out there catch the ball, execute, and now we're just moving around a little more. Now he has opportunity to move, gain some leverage, right? Gain good positions and still go out there and catch the ball, make plays like we expect.
Jones: Grittiness, toughness, and he brings a lot of energy. He's never has a bad day. I think Malakai brings a lot of energy to the room. And he just has fun out there. He brings the room up and in terms of making plays down the field and playing physically at the top of his routes, I think that's something that he really brings to our play. And then as far as you give him the ball, he's going to try and get you extra yards. And that's something that really helps us on catch and run situations or defenses that give you the space to do something like that.
Jones: He's done a really good job. I think he has just embraced kind of putting in the extra time, one on his own and two when he's in the building. And I think he's really developed into somebody that we can move around and play it all through spots. And I think that's what we want to do for him and use them as like, where can we put him at? Where can we plug and play with IB to utilize his abilities? And I think he's a three level player, right? We can use him quick game, mid game down the field. I think that's what he's really shown in this off season to say.
Jones: No, I think he's a great player. And we're very aware of how good he is. And we're just making sure we study as much as we can. We're prepared to show up when it's our time. I think he's shown his ability as a corner. He's really great when the ball's in the air. And we just gotta be really good with our technique and be really aggressive when it's our chance to go get it, right? We just have to have that mindset, it's ours or nobody's. And have confidence, right? We have to have the confidence of no matter who we're playing that we're gonna go win. But we know we're going up against a really good defense, really good corners. And we always gonna keep that in mind.
Jones: Just the level of communication kind of grows, I think. Conversations are different, guys are trying to get on the same page. And that's typically how it goes when you're in that spot. So now you try to build those connections. They try to understand what you're thinking in that spot. You understand what they're thinking in those spots. And that's how you build the time and get things together. So that's kind of what has developed as we've named him as a starter, I would say.
Jones: He's getting there, yeah. He's doing a good job. He's back in the flow, we're getting him back in everything. And anytime we get, we're getting him back up.
Jones: You have to be able to play multiple positions. That's how we like to teach it. I like to have everybody know all four spots, but you absolutely need to know that when you're in that fourth fifth receiver spot, you gotta know all three spots, right? All three spots, right? The XZF, you gotta know that, but you always try to teach offenses conceptually. So you can teach plays and say, we're in this formation, we're in this concept. You're in this spot, and you know that route. Or you say, this is the formation, this is the concept. One has this, two has this, three has that. And you put them at those spots, so they understand when they hear that concept, I'm at this spot, I know I have this route. So that way, it's easier for guys to understand what's going on when you call a play rather than, man, they went in a different formation. I know this concept, or I know this formation, but I don't remember what number two has. So that's like conceptual learning, it makes everybody's job easier. It makes everybody's life easier, rather than just learning spots on each play, if that makes sense.
