"I say versatile, but I'm a 3-tech at heart, but I play all around in college," Durant said. "I'm ready for whatever."
Versatility is valuable in the Bills' crowded defensive tackle room, which already includes Ed Oliver, DeWayne Carter, Zion Logue, Phidarian Mathis, T.J. Sanders, Deone Walker, Kody Huisman, and Tommy Akingbesote. With only four to five game-day rotation spots and heavy recent investment in the interior through the 2024 and 2025 drafts, competition for playing time will be fierce.
Durant's collegiate production backs his ability to disrupt offenses. Over his final two seasons at Penn State, he recorded 8.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss, showcasing a knack for penetrating the backfield. "Man, I saw relief," Durant said reflecting on being drafted. "No more guessing, don't even know where you're going."
His rookie journey will truly begin now, with daily competition and scheme adjustments throughout training camp. Buffalo's defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard has indicated the team's scheme will be tailored to fit its personnel, giving flexible players like Durant a potential edge.
