Purdy: Yeah, I mean from the get-go like we knew like alright Reason why we went out to Australia early was to get ready for that game and stuff and on the way back You know still be on top of our recovery and stuff based off of like what our Strengthen performance people had to say with DP and and I think everyone felt great towards the middle of the week ish and so yeah, it all worked out great but Coming into this game like we knew like the Dolphins their whole story and stuff is what it is, dude It's the NFL. You never know like anything can happen on Sundays and and so for us it's like how can we just be our best play our way of football and Keep our heads down and let the game play out itself And so that was the that's what we were saying all week, and I thought we went out there and did that today.
Purdy: Yeah, Dolphins had a lot of different looks actually a lot of five down even six down looks with bigs Still threw in some nickel looks with four down They did everything a lot of different kind of blitz looks and stuff too. So I mean their scheme is tough We had to be on top of our stuff and you just never knew what they were gonna do But with that being said, I think Kyle called a great game knowing, you know The right times to call like more explosive plays and opportunities and stuff and the run game I thought was good, too. So You know, that's a big big kudos to Kyle on when to call certain plays and whatnot, too.
Purdy: I honestly didn't know until towards the end fourth quarter maybe but For me, it was like dude. We had two drives in the first half, you know, they were eating up clock and stuff So for me every play every drive mattered It wasn't like we went out there and just blew these guys out like it was a it was a game And so I mean that's what we're saying. Like that's the NFL So that's where my headspace was at is like, how can I protect the ball? How can I move the ball take be in the right looks and be aggressive? And keep us ahead of the chains. So that's where my mindset was at really.
Purdy: Yeah I mean I think I went back and just watched the film with Nick Lombardi and where I was at last year and it's like If I'm hanging on a guy in a progression, it's like how can I find an outlet and or a check down and and stay Ahead of the chains and ahead of the downs and it's okay to be in third and medium rather than forcing a ball and being third and long and Stuff like that. So obviously, yeah, we know our looks when we have opportunities to make big plays but playing quarterback is dishing it out and staying ahead of the chains and taking completions when the defense is giving it to you so I feel like I've had to learn sort of the hard way throughout my career so far on some experiences and some scars But I feel like you got to learn and make improvements and make change That's that's what I did this offseason. I feel like so hopefully I can keep that up.
Purdy: Yeah, kiddo did a good job on the first play out of the half you know, they Blitz and try to stop the run and we had killed down the middle screaming and there's no better feeling getting him the ball An open space and letting him do what he does. So that was great on him to be smart and just keep it down the middle And then the Mike Evans one It was great for him to just keep running There was a guy chasing them obviously man coverage behind him and so for them for Mike to use his length So reach out and get the ball and make a play like that was pretty special too. So Yeah, just two guys obviously extremely great playmakers and for me, man It's just like how can I get the ball to him and Kyle does a good job with putting me in those positions, too.
Purdy: I mean, yeah It sucks. These are all extremely great playmakers, you know that looking at our roster and OTAs in camp It's like oh shoot, you know, we can do some damage and then yeah, Ricky goes down strip and now D Rob. So You know for me in the game. It's our ID Rob's out Jake Cowings up Hodge is up So when I have a lot of trust in those guys, I thought they came in and did a great job today and stuff So obviously we'll watch the film and try to figure out like where we at as an offense with our skill players and stuff too, and I know coach will put us in a great position with that so But yeah, it sucks man. So those are my guys and those are our playmakers and for them to go down early in the season like that stuff.
Purdy: They're doing an amazing job, I just feel like coming into this offseason man, our offensive lines had a chip on their shoulders for one to get back to our standard of running the ball and creating gaps for our running backs and stuff and plays like that And then obviously in the past game man, like they've taken on the challenge of like, you know Keeping me upright and clean and doing a great job. And I know that they do that every game That's their mindset, you know in the past years and stuff But man, they've done a great job and they're all playing together as a unit like you could feel them out there Finishing blocks and not to not having any, you know, gasser kind of plays. So for me, like that's really encouraging So obviously, I love those boys. I'm gonna go to war with them every every Sunday But I know they're gonna keep it up and and they need my best as well.
Purdy: Yeah, I mean he's the man obviously Hall of Famer and what he's done in his career Playmaker that can do, you know everything run the ball split them out catch the ball catch the ball out of the backfield Like he's the man And I was just telling the guys on the sideline like it's crazy like I you know grew up watching him in high school and stuff when he was at Stanford and then the Panthers and then To be a teammate with him and and be there when he scored his hundredth touchdown was like insane Like it's really cool to think about that. So to be on his team and be a teammate with him and you know Sort of go and help him Do what he wants to do with his career and just be there and feed him the ball and stuff like it's an honor for me So I'm extremely happy for him.
Unknown: When you see a guy complete 18 or 20 of 22 against an NFL defense just mentioned Brock I mean you play defense. What's your takeaway when you watch that?
Unknown: My takeaways, I'm not surprised, you know Brock is Unbelievable, you know, and you know, I've spoken on how how great of a preseason he had and his camp his command of the offense But it's different right? I mean we get judged on those three hours that were out there. And so for him to be operating the The offense the way he is right now It doesn't matter who who the other pieces are right as long as Brock's the one that's been the point guard I mean, I know we're good.
Unknown: From the defense today, what do you like from the unit and then also where do you feel like you guys need to improve?
Unknown: Yeah, I like the fight right? I think obviously never lacking an effort in tenacity things definitely could have been cleaner from a Execution standpoint all across the board, you know, especially getting off on third down in that first half second half was a lot better But I'm happy with the fact that we were able to keep him out out of the end zone Especially on those longer drives and holding the three.
Unknown: We'll get big lead. So they maybe go away from the run a little bit in the second half But where do you think the run defense is right now? What board are you seeing?
Unknown: I have to watch how it was today, you know what? I wasn't super happy about it but at the same time, you know, I think It's it's continuing to get better rights. We're starting to continue to feel more confident about you know where everybody's fitting and getting on in our blocks in the push that we that we need and we want so I Have to watch the film. It's so it's so hard like in this moment to kind of figure out exactly how it all fit up But you know, you mentioned it like the fact that our offense is scoring like they are and forcing teams to pass the football That's in our favor.
Unknown: It's been so much noise around these first two games with the travel and then potential letdown this week Just wondering how do you feel now that you're kind of through it and you're two and oh and and the way you guys responded What was a pretty significant challenge?
Unknown: Yeah, I mean it was uh, I mean you mentioned it like all the talk this week about not letting it be a trap game and all This other stuff but at the end of the day like it's it's the NFL You got to show up with your best foot forward every single week The goal this week was to go one and oh and we did just that and so We got to correct the tape hard and get ready for a divisional opponent in the Cardinals.
Unknown: About Brock's training camp that that was different than maybe some others and and in what ways has he sort of taken this next step? at this point in his career versus Versus your spouse.
Unknown: Yeah, I mean, I don't think it was it was like Something that was completely different from what he's done Like he's already been a been a phenomenal quarterback up to this point, right? And so he earned that the contract that he was you know That he got whenever he signed that because of the things that he's already done But it's just his like continual Progression, I guess like just as an NFL quarterback The game is so slow to him now. So like he's out there kind of just manipulating things No, no coverage is better than anybody the processing ability the ability to create and escape Like all those little things that kind of make a great quarterback in this league. He does all those things at a high level.
Unknown: Australia might have felt like a home game But what was it like to be back here at Levi's especially for you first game back here?
Unknown: Yeah, it was unbelievable. Right? I mean our fans are the best It started last night. We're at the team hotel and they're they're flooded all around the hotel You know the faithful are unbelievable and you could you could feel them You could hear them from the start of today's game all the way throughout to the end And so we got to make sure we continue to put the product in the field that they can be proud of.
Unknown: What do you see from guys like marquee and Jair and Upton today and their performance?
Unknown: I It's like I said, it's hard to tell because when you're in the you're in the fight things are kind of flying around You don't know who's hitting who but I mean, I've been super happy with just our our secondary in general Like they've been out there flying around Communicating a ton just everybody on the same page guys hunting the football You know, it's not a finished product and it won't ever be probably right We just got to continue to try to see how how far can we take this thing to really be a dominant defense.
Unknown: Key on white seems like it gets better and better every single week in this defense Place today. What's your take away watching?
Unknown: Yeah, I love him key on what he brings to our to our defense right the the versatility to be able to play inside outside You know being being strong in the run game and also obviously being a problem in the past game to be able to get To the quarterback. I think you mentioned it like he just continues to get better. Now. I mean, what else can you ask for?
Unknown: Friendly battles during camp, but how cool was that to see him get his hundredth career touchdown today?
Unknown: Yeah, we'll see MC. He's just he's the goat right? And so when people do when goats do things like that is just kind of like oh that's just another day of office row old Christian, but nobody works harder at their craft and You know is so it is as dedicated to the game is Christian And so everything that he does man, he's earned it and I know he's only gonna continue to keep keep getting better.
Unknown: Surprisingly No, I didn't know he's in here. Oh Christian. Yeah, that's the go right there Chris McCaffrey. Yeah. Yeah 100th career touchdown. Just what does that mean to you and have guys like Fred and Brock earlier?
Unknown: Great Means a lot. You know, it's a blessing to be able to play this game and stuff like that's always, you know it's always cool, but It's always about the team always about you know, showing up trying to do your job and You know, it was a great win for us today.
Unknown: You come into this, but did she just ask about the record? Well, you're in the company of Randy malls and in Marshall Park, how much does that mean to you?
Unknown: Yeah, it's kind of crazy to hear that. You know, I watched all those guys growing up Marshall Faulk being a Somebody that you know, I've probably seen every single snap. He's played so I don't take it for granted man, you know, I and Randy Moss me and probably threw it to him a million times and Madden growing up So those are huge huge honors and definitely a big honor that I'm I'm happy to happy to have.
Unknown: Really productive fun offenses here over the years. I mean right now through two games. It seems like There's a lot of fun and a lot to watch out there. What is it like from your perspective and how good this offense is already?
Unknown: Yeah, I think you know, it's still so early And I don't think this offense and this team in general looks at it Like, you know, we've arrived at all I think one of the coolest parts about this team is that when we watch that film, it's highly critical And and you know, obviously the scoreboard has been great the last two weeks But there's so many things we can always get better at and our standards gonna continue to rise and and that's really What we're focused on obviously you love games like this, but that's not how every game is And so it's about continuing to prepare the right way so that each week we're you know We've put in the correct kind of work that you know, we can show up and and execute.
Unknown: When Brock is rattling off 18-19 completions in a row like it. Can you feel like oh, he's really locked in today And not that he's not always locked in but just a little bit more when he's when he's in his own like that?
Unknown: Yeah, I mean he's he's special I think that'd be the word I I'd use for it. I think when him and Kyle get on a roll like that It's so fun to watch You know as a running back obviously, you know, you want to you want to roll but when we're running keepers like that and they're putting six up and Kind of selling out it's why you know, you can just see that the keepers open up I don't know what he I don't feel like he threw in completion the whole day I don't know what the stats are but It's unbelievable to watch that and how decisive he is How good he is at throwing on time and then also creating when he has to You know when he's at the helm, we feel good.
Unknown: Richard Proxett that the old line is a chip on their shoulder Do you sense that at all?
Unknown: 100%? Yeah, I mean those guys were gritty all day you know, we knew it was gonna be tough yards today and Those guys were were excellent have been excellent. You can see it in practice You can see it in the games and it's been fun to fun to be behind him.
Unknown: You had the two touchdowns but outside of that, you know, the run game wasn't super impactful today How do you feel like you guys can just get more involved on the ground?
Unknown: You know, I think Again, you never know how a team's gonna play us teams might show stuff on tape and then against us they might do stuff differently Obviously just continuing to break tackles and fall forward But you know in the NFL you you put a lot of guys on the line and and you bring safety down in the box quickly You got to get those ugly two or three and only we only had two possessions in the first half So it felt like we were off the field forever And then, you know again those three four five yard runs that just compile That's gonna open up the pass game And I think you know when you're a part of a team that has so many weapons if a team wants to stop the run Well, they're you know They're gonna have to pick one and I think that's when you see Brock go out there and the receivers go out there And do their job and for us. It's about hard running continuing to press it and hit the hole and You know, whatever happens at the end of game happens, but I think that's why It's it's such an advantage to be on an offense like this because you kind of have to make a defense pick their poison.
Unknown: Brock played at a high level before but is was there anything about training camp or the first two games? That makes you think that Brock is taking him to his game to a little bit different level than maybe previously.
Unknown: I feel like I answer that question all the time and it's like at some point, you know It's he he's an incredible great quarterback. You know, he's somebody that is You know He's unbelievable. So can he take it to another level? I mean, yeah, yeah, but that's that's pretty he he's You know, he's already in the category of somebody that Is special so You know again, I've been answering that question for like years now It's like are you shocked how good he is and then next week are you shocked how good he is next year? Are you shocked? I'm like and now I'm not shocked. He's he's special.
Unknown: Personal class milestone like you reached today. How much do you actually get to enjoy it in the moment?
Unknown: All you're in the middle of it, you know, I walk out the door and you know again these the accolades and stuff are nice But I know where I got to go. I know I can always get better each game Pretty highly critical of my performances and where I you know, what plays I want back how to get better and you know, Again, I just enjoy playing football. I think it's a blessing every time I step on the field if you get accolades great if you don't, you know We want to win think everybody on this team has a list of accolades And so you're around a bunch of great players and if there's one thing I've learned from all of them That's those things are awesome But we want to win football games and that's what really matters We want to do it together and we we want to be proud of the tape at the end of the day.
Unknown: That's a huge loss man, he's he's such a great player Seems like he's always open. He you know, it's great after the catch. So I'm praying that it's it's not a serious injury and I know he'll come back ready to go though.
Unknown: My brother is one for sure now that he's able to watch and then Chris, of course Raheem, I mean everybody the whole D line like we're gonna watch it and go over it all but I'll do it on my own tonight and Be hard on myself.
Unknown: Were you guys aware of that talk and how did how do you feel you respond?
Unknown: Yeah, I mean whenever a team Whenever a situation like this happens you you You get that that chatter, but obviously it's the NFL and and early in that game I mean halftime was a one possession game. So, you know guys are I mean every week you see the good teams lose and the bad teams win, so So you just have to come in every week not not think about the opponent in that sense and just play your game.
Unknown: If you had to speak to like the step or each step that the defensive line is taking last week You guys got to Stafford a few times But no sex this week or today for sex in this matchup If you can kind of detail like what you see guys like Kim white yourself We're mellow height so many others that are kind of helping you guys to get out to the quarterback a lot better.
Unknown: I mean we have a lot of guys Who Haven't had this big of roles before obviously the rookies and then and key on and OSA like We're gonna get better as we go and as long as we're taking steps in the right direction and winning games really all that matters.
Unknown: Say I had a chance to watch the film That standpoint particularly in the first half Fred was saying that there's he's look at it Just to see fits and things like that is it a lot different in terms of run fits and things like that in this The run defense?
Unknown: Not so much I think Yeah, we let a few of those drives go a lot longer than we had hoped and that's definitely Probably the number one get better is is stopping the run a little better But yeah, I wouldn't say the run fits are crazy different.
Unknown: What would it like to be playing back here for the first time especially since your injury?
Unknown: Feel amazing The atmosphere is great. I felt a lot better this week Just physically my knee kind of adapted this week after the first game and I felt like myself.
Unknown: Howdy we'll be doing this interview together What seemed like to watch it was a lot of fun on the offer While you get your first touchdown since returning back from your injury and then obviously your big play What is it like to be on the offensive side of the ball this year with this squad?
Unknown: Well, first off I want to say pretty sure the Niners are undefeated every time me and juice both score touchdowns, but so Let's keep doing that Great record and then Mike Evans is good at football. He's helped our offense out tremendously It's good, too. It's like our offense line has basically been the same. It's like they've been able to have met like kind of gel together Brock's confidence has continued to skyrocket and The receiver room is a little weird, you know, obviously we just keep getting guys you're getting banged up But you know, Mike Evans is doing a great job Do Rob was doing great when he was out there and you know, Deebo's finding his stride too So I mean and also you have Christian McCaffrey too. So our offense are just really fun right now And I think Kyle's just feeling himself.
Unknown: I was gonna say then George summarized it pretty well I think what he's saying is that we have a lot of weapons on this team and I It's that's not particularly Like new I feel like that's been the case for many years here But it's a lot of weapons that have now had the time to gel together That continue to grow Brock gets more experienced the offensive line plays together longer And I just feel like we still get to excel and continue to get better and better.
Unknown: The play you mentioned Mike Evans and you mentioned Brock pretty comfortable the play where The catch for my game is down in the one-yard line He like placed it right over the head of a defender right into the hands of Mike Evans Can you kind of just speak to one the guy that Mike Evans is for you guys with Brock party as he's grown so much with you guys?
Unknown: What I've loved about Mike is he's just so consistent and he makes the easy things look so easy and You can only do that by being you know, the skilled player that he is like, it's not easy He just makes it look easy and for Brock on that play For him to be able to pump fake that defender and still keep his eyes down field and for Mike to continue on his route And not let up thinking that Brock was running the ball Just speaks to both of them and that the type players they are I mean when you add a Hall of Fame wide receiver to You that's still playing at a Hall of Fame letter level It makes your entire offense a lot easier and then Brock just has a confidence. He goes. Oh, Mike Evans is down there somewhere.
